Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? Haven't you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth your hand now, and touch all t...

You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith. In the same way, wasn't Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead. James...

However you are just in all that is come on us; for you have dealt truly, but we have done wickedly; neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept your law, nor listened to your commandments and your testimonies with which you did testify against them. For they have not ser...

Correcting God

  • You were running well! Who interfered with you that you should not obey the truth? This persuasion is not from him who calls you. Galatians 5:7'8 WEB

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians, who had turned away from following Jesus, and back to keeping the law. He asked them who had cut in on them to keep them from obeying the truth. The term 'cut in' means 'to hinder, interrupt, to get in the way.' Anyone that has been cut off in traffic has experienced this. The Galatians had been pushed away from the truth.

Legalism has always been a hindrance to a move of God. I find that when my desire for God starts to weaken, that I slowly gravitate towards a set of rules and soon I become close-minded and lukewarm. Where there is legalism, the personal relationship is pretty much dead, and a timely word from God (Rhema) is necessary to bring back the fire.

When you connect with the heart of God, you will find that it is never about keeping rules. His commandments are for our protection and a guide to a happy life. 'Go into your neighbors wife, and he may kill you, so do not do that'' 'Turn the other cheek, lest you be stabbed, for it takes two to fight.'

Jesus was full of grace and truth, but faced legalism while He lived down here and the Pharisees wanted to 'correct' Him:

'The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, 'Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?' He answered them, 'Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honors me with their lips, But their heart is far from me. But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' '

For you set aside the commandment of God, and hold tightly to the tradition of men'the washing of pitchers and cups, and you do many other such things.' He said to them, 'Full well do you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition' (Mark 7:5'9).

Jesus said that the Pharisees 'set aside' the commandments of God and held tightly to their traditions. They had added an 'oral torah' alongside God's law that was passed down through the generations and contained things like washing the arms up to the elbow seven times before eating. They worked hard, for nothing.

The same tendency lives with us today. The only way to stay balanced is to stay close to God and be led by the Holy Spirit. 'But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law' (Galatians 5:18). It is something that we must do daily to keep the fire burning.

Stay teachable, stay humble. When you feel like you have arrived, that is a sure sign that you have not. 'Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he doesn't yet know as he ought to know' (1 Corinthians 8:1'2).

Prayer: Heavenly Father draw my heart to You and light a fire within me. Let me be known as Your disciple because of my love for others. Share Your heart with me and teach me to hear Your voice clearly, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Amen, this is the problem in most churches, serving God is a 24-7 decission. On any given Sunday morning, most churches are full of people, but come Monday morning where is the fruit? It is written; delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart! I ask, when was the last time you saw that happen? It CAN!

We must learn how to have a true relationship with our Abba Father, through the Spirit of Adoption, ( the Holy Spirit), we must worship and adore Him in Spirit and in Truth. We must set aside man made legalism in our churches and embrace a Father/Son or Father/Daughter relationship with our Great I AM, our Abba Father, then He will show us great and mighty things.

Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV)

3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Pastor Dion, first and foremost, I truly enjoy your daily devotionals but I must disagree with today's lesson and here's why.  When you talk about  legalism, I believe most pastors and churches have a wrong understanding regarding this topic. First, what do you call legalism?  The 10 commandments? Or the Mosaic Laws and Pharissiducal Laws?  There's a huge difference! Remember Jesus dispelled the Mosaic Laws / Pharissiducal laws because of the burdens that were put on people but never did Jesus do away the 10 Commandments as most people who think of legalism believe.  We  know Jesus kept the commandments because he never sinned and if he had the plan for salvation would have been null and void. In  Revelation it says those who love me will keep my commandments and in Revelations 12:17 it says that the devil was angry with those who keep the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ - the remnant!  For too long the church has been misguided on this topic and God's Sabbath which our lord and master kept while preaching in the Synagogues every Sabbath (Saturday) and even keeping the Sabbath in death rising on the first day of the week.  The entire Acts of the Apostles teach and preach on the Sabbath no where in the Bible does the first day the week become the new sabbath - man made idealogy just like this Pharissiducal laws..... Always in Love

"Legalism has always been a hindrance to a move of God"  More in depth and further explanation and study of this please.  It will be very good if it will be a topic for you on your Saturday Mass for further insights, reflections and explanations for me to fully understand it. I would really appreciate it.  Thank you very much.
