In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It's a ghost!" and they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying "Cheer up! I AM! Don't be afraid." Peter answered him and said...

Anchor of the Soul from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. When people lose hope, they lie down and die. They lose the will to live and fight any longer. Hopelessness is utter despair, the belief that nothing good will happen. When you begin to think like this, it will bring a desire to die. A ...

The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?" He answered them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, But their heart is far f...

Carbon Copies

  • Now Yahweh's word came to me, saying, 'Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I sanctified you. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.' Then I said, 'Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, I don't know how to speak; for I am a child.' Jeremiah 1:4 WEB

Jeremiah tried to reason with the Lord and to make excuses about why he was not the one for this job, but the Lord would not take no for an answer. Jeremiah felt inadequate, but the Lord had appointed Jeremiah as a prophet before he was even born. Jeremiah had not yet done anything, either good or bad, yet the Lord had already made plans for his life and equipped him for it.

God did not choose Jeremiah because he was wealthy, or because of his charisma, or because he was popular. God said that He formed Jeremiah in the womb. He could have made Jeremiah anything that He wanted him to be, and He did just that. Jeremiah came with the toolkit that was needed to fulfill his purpose.

Likewise, so do you. God made you the way that He wanted you to be and you have skills that others do not. You shall not covet anything that is your neighbors (Deuteronomy 5:21). I would call rejecting the original you that God created and then desiring to have your neighbor's life instead, 'an original sin.' God did not create us to be carbon copies of another. We are each unique and special to Him.

You are who God wanted you to be. Our choices and actions can be good or bad, but as a person, we are who God made us to be. Stop being so critical. Don't look down on yourself because you are not wealthy, or not as popular as someone else. Stop trying to be like someone else and be who God created you to be, and your life will find its true meaning and purpose.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for creating me. Please unlock the skills and gifts that You have placed in my life and teach me to utilize them to their fullest extent. Help me become the best version of myself, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Amen! We truly don't begin to live out God's plan for our lives until we learn to love ourselves, just as we are. Then we are free from self condemnation and self criticism. Then we are able to do what God has designed us to do withour being concerned of what others think. We have to die to self to gain life in Christ. Trying to measure up to what other people may think is important, such as wealth, body image, education, etc, is walking in the flesh and is serving no one. As we walk away from these ideals and see ourselves for who we are in Christ , we shed the skin of selfish thoughts and worldy opinions. We strive to only serve our beloved Savior and then only what our Abba Father and our Jesus think of us becomes important. Nothing else matters, just walking in God's presence and living out a Jesus centered life.

Today's devotional was right on point, beause I woke up this morning and I was not feeling good about myself.  I even coveted being in someone else's shoe and how it would feel to be like them. And when I came in to work, I read the RHM devotional and realize how special I am to the Lord.  We must always love ourselves and love who God created us to be, as women we may not like the lines or extra pounds that we accomulate over the years, but deep within us are the gifts and talents that God gave to us.  Let's use them today to inspire someone and lead them to Christ.

Yes I agree.  It can be a struggle.  We must look at ourselves and see how GOD sees us, then we can always be better each day...better physically fit by exercise, eating healthy, better choices ....

So true, and I wish I had read these words when I was an insecure 14 year old kid, who believed my life would be perfect if I was skinny! problem was, I never became thin enough, and struggled with an eating disorder as a teenager.Every adolescent needs to know the Lord!
