For this cause, I remind you that you should stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timmothy 1:6 WEB
Have you ever felt a sense of dread come over you? Have you been afraid of that monster in the closet or under your bed? My older brother who had the driver's license, was a horror movie fan and I must have seen every one released while growing up. Do not let that happen to your children. For years, I paid the price and I still despise them today. Why would someone do that with a chainsaw?
After I started drawing closer to God, He revealed to me that fear is rooted in not trusting Him. Though it can be a very powerful enemy to overcome, He is the ultimate power. Faith is believing that God will protect you. Fear is believing that He will not.
Often it is because we feel that we have let Him down, that God is mad at us and we may get punished, but God removes our past sins away from us just like they never happened. If you grew up like I did and your brain was trained to think a certain way, it can take a while to retrain your thought patterns. I had to memorize this verse and say it often.
God's Holy Spirit gives us power, love and a sound, disciplined mind, which is the complete opposite of fear and panic. Resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7). Let your mind be renewed and take on the mind of Christ. If God is for us, who can stand against us? Think positive and do not dwell on what may happen, because it may not. Put your trust in Him and do not try and work it all out in your mind. God knows the end from beginning and He is well able to prepare you for what is coming. Don't be scared.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for being there for me. Remove the fear from my life and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Let me walk in faith and power and be a part of what You are doing on this earth, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
Amen. "Let your mind be renewed and take on the mind of Christ. If God is for us, who can stand against us? Think positive and do not dwell on what may happen, because it may not. Put your trust in Him and do not try and work it all out in your mind. God knows the end from beginning and He is well able to prepare you for what is coming."
I can relate to this very well. I wouldn't say that I was scared but trying to be very prepared. Since I was an Eagle Scout and the scout motto is "Be Prepared" and my personality combined with it ended up putting me into a depression mode for about a year I would say. Not that I didn't trust the Lord but I guess I figured I could help myself even more. "do not try and work it all out in your mind." That was my problem. I wasted a whole year doing this. Not that there wasn't some good that came out of it. And I did learn a lot of what to do and not to do. But it was the source of knowledge that I chose that threw me into a down, dismal and depressed state in life. Not that what I was preparing for not real but it was the state of mind of how I was preparing for it. And yes you should be prepared but make sure you prepare spiritually as well since your source of knowledge and wisdom comes from above.
Thank pastor for this reminder that God doesn't give us a mine of fear. But have faith and trust him. I don't watch scary movies they give me nightmare.
Where in the bible is the scripture verse that says God has given us a spirit of power ove and a sound mind? I found it. 2Timothy 1:7. Sorry I see you posted that for an introduction. My bad. Oh well I get the joy of opening my bible and reading the whole text.
I repeat another verse in my mind, too: Philippians 4:8--whatsoever things are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Definitely rules out scary movies! Keeping my mind focused on the Lord! Thanks Pastor Dion for sharing your encouragement!
Amen! Ive watched a lot of scary movies on the past and still now, I probably should stop, thank you for the reminder Pastor Dion. Thank you Jesus!
Fear paralyzes us and doubt God's power. Nothing to fear but fear itself. It is just like training your mind to swell on the negative and worst outcomes out of every situation. God can liberate us out of this state of mind For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
Amen
Amen ♡
Thank you!I needed that today!!
Proverb 3:5-6
Trust the LORD GOD with all our heart and do not lean in our own understanding, In all our ways acknowledge HIM and HE will make your path straight. "If God is for us, who can stand against us? Think positive and do not dwell on what may happen, because it may not. Put your trust in Him and do not try and work it all out in your mind. God knows the end from beginning and He is well able to prepare you for what is coming. Don't be scared." Praise and Glory to YOUR OUR LORD GOD. Amen
Amen Deng. That is the Truth!!
I bought a coffee mug a few months ago that says "Think positive and great things will happen". I like it because it helps to have that as a reminder in my day. I like the verse you wrote about today. It reminds me of why we lay hands on people when we pray for people in church as a group. Thank you Pastor Dion for your devotional. I am back to reading it almost every day to help stay in touch with God after a long troubling time I had for a few months. Thank you to you and your wife Sylvia.
Amen!
Amen. Praise God! Thank you Pastor Todd! Father, I thank You for being there for me. Remove the fear from my life and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Let me walk in faith and power and be a part of what You are doing on this earth, in the Name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.

Amen!! Thank you Pastor Dion and this devotion. I never liked scary movies and my daughter don't either. Her one cousin use to always play them whe she would sleep there. She did it just to scare my daughter it would upset me. She did a lot of evil things she put my daughter threw in her life. My daughter put toxic people out of her life after last summer.
I use yo always think there was a monster under my bed and if I had to go to the bathroom. I would jump from the bottom of my bed to the opening of the door. I could feel my heart racing everytime I had to do I did. I always had things that I didn't like as a child . I didn't like clowns I never trusted them and to this day I still don't like them. My daugher don't either I would never let them near her. You never know what type of people are behind the face. I was always trying to protect my daughter from people like the one who was in the family. He was there for 32 years and I have to say i'm still not right about what happen. The more I think about it the more things come to mind. I pray Father that I can forget all the toxic people that have put a lot of pain in my daughter, husband and my life. I rebuke them all in Jesus, name I pray. Amen.
yep
