One Step at a Time

  • By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went. By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise. Hebrews 11:8 WEB

The Lord told Abram to leave his father's house and country and travel to a land that He would show him in Genesis, Chapter twelve. After this it simply says, "So Abram went as the Lord had told him." What a step of faith it was for Abram to leave his country and his family, without even knowing where he was going.

At this point God had not done anything for Abram yet, except to tell him to leave his home. Yet he stayed positive, completely convinced that God was able to do what He had told him. Abram did not have to leave his country at all if he had chosen not to. He made a choice to do what God told him and now we read about Abraham, the father of nations. If Abram had chosen not to go, God would have used someone else and we might be reading about someone named Mathez, the father of nations.

Only the first step of God's plan was revealed to him: leave this place. Later after Abram obeyed, God gave him the next step. He walked with God one step at a time, often not understanding why or where. When God tested Abram by asking him to sacrifice Issac, do you think that he wondered why? I would have.

Many times in my life I did not understand what the Lord was doing or why. I just had to take that next step and trust that the problem was going to work itself out, and it did, time after time after time. If you hold onto what God has told you and walk through the doors that He opens for you, things will work out. Though it is a narrow path lined with thorns, He has cleared the way in front of you. So stop looking to the left or the right, and focus on Jesus. Trust Him and do not let fear and unbelief hold you back. You do not have to understand where this is going or why, because He does.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for taking care of me. I know that You see the big picture while I am limited to today. Draw my heart to You Lord and let me know You in a deeper way, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Yes, I understand this. I've been in The Springs Nursing Home since June 24th with a broken right femur bone in rehab. I also have asked this question about where He wants me to be. I just guess I am where I'm suppose to be where I am for the moment now. He is taking care of me. Again, Jeremiah 29:11. His plans are better than mine.   :)

Abraham had to have faith or he would have never left his country. The problem I see in this day is there are too many people who think they are God's chosen Prophets telling us to do what they say, and we are not waiting to hear from God for our self. The best advice is what Isaiah said, wait on God to say and then do. He is more than capable.

That's the truth, Jim. I know you, like us, respect the prophetic, but we are all also called to have our own relationship with Him and hear from ourselves.

Amen, where He leads me I wll follow. Though I know not where I will travel, I will go along with Him. He will guide me through this tempestuous world and across many stormy seas, to spralling peaceful green pastures and blue sparkling still waters. I only need to go with Him.

Amen! I just need to be clear on the steps He wants me to take.....I am tying to follow what I feel He wants me to do but's an uphill battle.  I feel like I'm fighting against an almost physical feeling of being pushed down.

GM, today we bury my Aunt Jackie, she fought a good fight. Everything seems unreal, it's like I am in a dream. We really had the faith that she would be healed from cancer on this side. I ask for your prayers today for my family. We still believe God. God is still a healer. I am going to continue to focus on him. Pastor Todd, thank you so much for your word. Be blessed church...afterall it is by  his grace and mercy that brought us this far.

I am so sorry for your loss, Khalilah.  I believe your aunt has experienced the Ultimate Healing, because she is now with the Lord, where she'll never get sick or be in pain again.  Yes, it means her earthly life has ended and that's sad for you and her family.  I pray that you all will find comfort in knowing she's forever free from suffering, and that you'll be reunited in Heaven one day.

Absolutely, I have experienced this in my life.  Just recently (November 2015), I visited another church along with my daughter (I had been a member of my previous church for 9 years; my daughter had stopped attending our former church and had not found a new church home yet).  I told her we could visit this new church on my "off Sunday" (I served as a Greeter every other Sunday).  We walked into the doors of this new church, and we felt right at home from the moment we walked in.  I didn't realize, until that day, that I'd been missing that sense of being connected, of that "intimacy" with other people--my former church had grown very large in numbers, but the small connections had gotten lost.  Believe me, I didn't know I'd be deciding to permanently leave my former church--but, the more I attended church services at the new church, the more God showed me that it was where He wanted both of us (my daughter and me) to be!  My daughter and I both became official members of our new church; it's such a joy to see her excited about fellowshipping in church again. And, there are doors opening for me to serve using the talents and gifts God has blessed me with--opportunities I wouldn't have had at my former church.  Yes, God does indeed lead and guide us when we take the first step, and I am so thankful for that!
