But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; Isaiah 64:6 KJV
As the preacher looked over the congregation, pondering his next victim, I sank lower and lower in my chair. He always chose someone at random from the congregation to pray, so everyone tried to avoid making eye contact with him during this time. You would suddenly find everyone reading their Bible or the church bulletin.
When I was called on to pray, I just felt so unworthy, especially when asked to pray for others. I would look down on myself and I just felt that my prayers were a waste, others could do better, and I could not properly get the words out because of over thinking it.
Finally in frustration I just confessed to the Lord one day that 'I am not worthy to do this so stop asking me.' To my amazement I heard 'That's right. You're not.' and then this verse came to my remembrance in a very clear way. He made it real to me.
We all know this in our head, but I finally understood in my heart that it is not our performance or acts of 'righteousness' that makes us worthy to come to the Lord in prayer at all. It is the sacrifice of His Son Jesus that makes us worthy to pray. We stand before Him washed as white as snow by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our own 'righteousness' is as a menstrual cloth, that is what the 'filthy rags' refer to in this verse.
When you are called on to pray, step out boldly knowing that God has made you righteous through His Son Jesus, and not by your own actions. You are only worthy, because He has made you worthy and you were brought here for such a time as this. So pray it boldly like you mean it.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to redeem us, to wipe away our sin. Now we can come boldly to You in prayer. I adore You and want to know You better. Fill me with Your love and peace, shine Your light through me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
Amen

Thank you Jesus for taking my place when You died for my sin's and forgave me ALL of my sin's and for the resurection power, You have put inside of me through the Holy Spirit.
Even the least eloquent prayer offering is far better than none.
Amen! Simple words spoken from the heart are powerful.
Prayers when it is coming from the heart is the most powerful one. They are always heard and answered.
Amen
It never ceases to amaze me that it is when I come to Jesus at my lowest, at my greatest awareness of my unworthiness , that ,that is when, by His grace He speaks to me and uses me for His purpose.

I'm praying also for the police depts all over this country and the families of those that were slain. My heart is hurt and sad because of this madness. I'm praying also for the two men who were killed by police, that don't mean all police are bad.
God bless them all!
Amen, Gail, joining with you and everyone. We need HIS solutions to end this. Lord, please grant us Your wisdom <3.
Praying for the slain police officers and their familes. LORD GOD I lift up to you the families and relatives of the slain police officers. Please give them peace in their and they would forgiveness in their heart, and grant rest and peace and bless the souls of the slain officers, in the name of JESUS CHRIST I pray. Amen
Today's devotional is definitely how I feel when I'm asked to pray. In our national convention, I'm shame to say but sometimes I want come into service until after the prayer has been made during praise and worship service to avoid being the one to pray. If I'm on a program to pray, I'm sometimes petrified, I've gotten a little better, but it's a word like this that's encouraging. I do believe it's more looking at my inability and God's ability.
Thank you pastor Dion and God bless you and yours!
