When the ten heard it, they began to be indignant toward James and John. Jesus summoned them, and said to them, 'You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant. Whoever of you wants to become first among you, shall be bondservant of all. For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.' Mark 10:41 WEB
While walking along the road to Jerusalem with Jesus, James and John came up and asked Him to make them his second and third in command in the coming kingdom, or vice versa. Two things were important to them: James and John, or John and James. Either choice would be fine. One wanted to be at His right hand, and the other at His left in His coming kingdom.
Ironically, when Jesus triumphed on the cross, there was a crucified thief on either side of Him (Mark 15:27). The disciples knew not what they were asking. The other ten disciples became angry, probably because they had not thought of it first. 'Who is the greatest' was an important topic to them (Mark 9:34). Either way, no one was seeking to be the last or aspiring to be a servant.
Jesus explained that to be truly great in the kingdom of God, you had to become the servant, and that this position was currently vacant among them. Remember, Moses was not used by God until his selfish ambition was dead (Exodus 4:13). Then he became the meekest (most humble) and the most powerful man on earth. Something in him had to die first.
If you want to be great in the sight of God, serve others. This job is always available because everyone else is scrambling for the top. The servant position always has a vacancy. When you humble yourself, God will raise you up and no man can stop it for humility comes before honor (Proverbs 18:12).

Amen, I have to be honest, it is so hard to be humble, but that is the only way that the Lord can use us, can use me.
My prayer is: Lord help me to be humble, help me to control what comes of my lips, and make me a servant!
It is my heart's desire to please you Lord! Father in heaven, please hear my prayer. In Jesus name I ask and pray, Amen!

Just what I neede to hear! I have just spent a weekend of great praise and gratitude to the man who started the AA movement. God was always put in the equation. If not for Him, our fellowship would never had gotten off the ground. No one is greater than the next, we all have the same disease. I know I will not be judged or shunned because of my disease here at RHM, I have no shame. It is a illness I will always have, God has chosen me to be clean and sober today. I am always available to give away what has so freely been given to me, to anyone. A "normal" person or another alcoholic! Today I feel so blessed and high on God!
Amen.
Thank you dear Pastor, for the great message!
Amen!!! Thank you Pastor Dion for this devotion that lets us know that many of us need to humble ourselves. We need to stop and know that starting at the bottom and work your ay up. Some make it and some don't just wait on the Lord and stay humble. He will taje notice of you on his time. Amen <3
Amen!! I choose to be humble and kind to all living things!! To show kindness with a smile, to be considerate of others. We all can be better human beings to each other. It's not hard to do, and it makes your self feel so good. What a difference it would make......
