In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It's a ghost!" and they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying "Cheer up! I AM! Don't be afraid." Peter answered him and said...

Anchor of the Soul from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. When people lose hope, they lie down and die. They lose the will to live and fight any longer. The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?" He answered them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, But their heart is far f...

Vacancy

  • When the ten heard it, they began to be indignant toward James and John. Jesus summoned them, and said to them, 'You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant. Whoever of you wants to become first among you, shall be bondservant of all. For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.' Mark 10:41 WEB

While walking along the road to Jerusalem with Jesus, James and John came up and asked Him to make them his second and third in command in the coming kingdom, or vice versa. Two things were important to them: James and John, or John and James. Either choice would be fine. One wanted to be at His right hand, and the other at His left in His coming kingdom.

Ironically, when Jesus triumphed on the cross, there was a crucified thief on either side of Him (Mark 15:27). The disciples knew not what they were asking. The other ten disciples became angry, probably because they had not thought of it first. 'Who is the greatest' was an important topic to them (Mark 9:34). Either way, no one was seeking to be the last or aspiring to be a servant.

Jesus explained that to be truly great in the kingdom of God, you had to become the servant, and that this position was currently vacant among them. Remember, Moses was not used by God until his selfish ambition was dead (Exodus 4:13). Then he became the meekest (most humble) and the most powerful man on earth. Something in him had to die first.

If you want to be great in the sight of God, serve others. This job is always available because everyone else is scrambling for the top. The servant position always has a vacancy. When you humble yourself, God will raise you up and no man can stop it for humility comes before honor (Proverbs 18:12).

Prayer: Father, I thank You for this day. Help me see Your path clearly and understand the opportunities that You provide me. Please give me Your grace to be a servant and to keep the right attitude in every situation, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

I'm scared, my heart has been broken so much. I'm beginning to think this is why I'm having the trouble. I've given everything to Jesus and I know whatever happens is GODS plan and purpose. I just need strength to get more bad news. Lots of love.... Lisa I will keep you posted after my Dr's plan today.

Sylvia Todd I suppose the pride that James and John exhibited has been around since the time of Lucifer, who found it wasn't good enough to simply serve, but needed to be in the spotlight. I pray that He protects us all from this pitfall and keeps our vision on the One who is greater than any earthly praise we can receive.

Carol Pady Amen! There is no greater honor than to serve others. I am most happiest when I am helping others. Matthew 20:28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." It is inbred in the heart of a Christian through the Holy Spirit to serve as Jesus served. I cannot but help to feel this desire to serve, as Christ who lives in me, molds me into everything He wants me to be. It is through Him that I am who I am, for I can do nothing for the Kingdom without Him.

Amen, I have to be honest, it is so hard to be humble, but that is the only way that the Lord can use us, can use me.

My prayer is: Lord help me to be humble, help me to control what comes of my lips, and make me a servant!

It is my heart's desire to please you Lord! Father in heaven, please hear my prayer. In Jesus name I ask and pray, Amen!

Dion~

Just what I neede to hear!  I have just spent a weekend of great praise and gratitude to the man who started the AA movement. God was always put in the equation.  If not for Him, our fellowship would never had gotten off the ground.  No one is greater than the next, we all have the same disease.  I know I will not be judged or shunned because of my disease here at RHM, I have no shame.  It is a illness I will always have, God has chosen me to be clean and sober today.  I am always available to give away what has so freely been given to me, to anyone.  A "normal" person or another alcoholic!  Today I feel so blessed and high on God!

Amen!! I choose to be humble and kind to all living  things!! To show kindness with a smile, to be considerate of others. We all can be better human beings to each other. It's not hard to do, and it makes your self feel so good. What a difference it would make......
