For you will light my lamp, Yahweh. My God will light up my darkness. For by you, I advance through a troop. By my God, I leap over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect. Yahweh's word is tried. He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him. Psa. 18:28 WEB
Total darkness is the complete absence of light. In scripture it is associated with gloom, despair and terror as well as the normal meaning of no light. When you remove all light, what you are left with is darkness. Humans cannot distinguish color when it grows dark. As the light fades, colors become gray and eventually black.
One of the curses on Egypt was a darkness that could be felt. It was an oppressing, heavy, thick darkness, and no one even moved out of their spot for three days, but there was light in the houses of God's people (Exodus 10:22). It was the complete absence of light.
'Let there be light' was one of the first things that God did in Genesis (1:3). Jesus told the people: 'I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life' (John 8:12).
Life is fragile. As people, we like to think that we have it all under control, but I have been on top of the world and the very next day under it, felt crushed.
One phone call, and a darkness like this can settle over us, one that can be felt. The light of God's presence will drive away the darkness, just as turning a light on in a dark room. When the Lord lights your lamp, all the darkness falls away.
If your life is in a dark place today, look to the Lord Jesus. When you cannot seem to move out of it, it is He who will bring light into the darkness. He can meet you right where you are and His light can drive away the darkness and restore the color to your world. Jesus is the answer.
Prayer: Father, I look to You today. Bring Your light to my life and drive away the darkness. Fill me with Your presence, restore my hope and give me a fresh vision for life, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
