For it is precept on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little. Isaiah 28:10 WEB.We had scattered pieces all over the table while we worked on assembling a jigsaw puzzle. It was a total mess. This one was mysteriously difficult, for someone had mistakenly...

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are ...

Going Back to Egypt

  • Why does Yahweh bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be captured or killed! Wouldn't it be better for us to return into Egypt?' They said to one another, 'Let's choose a leader, and let's return into Egypt.' Numbers 14:3 WEB

When the Israelites came to the land that God promised them, they stopped and sent out twelve spies to survey it. When the spies returned, all of them but Caleb and Joshua told a grim tale of giants living in fortresses. It made them feel like grasshoppers. The Israelites were terrified and decided to stone Moses, choose another leader, and go back to Egypt.

Yet God had not changed His mind. His promise still stood firm. He had brought them this far, and would take them the rest of the way, if they would only stay the course. It was the people who had changed. They gave in to their fear and then wanted to turn back. They began to wonder if it was all worth it and told themselves 'We cannot do this.'

God has brought you this far, and though the road in front of you may now look terrifying, do not turn back. God is still with you. His plan has not changed. He will still fulfill His promise. God has not changed His mind. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil for He is with me (from Psalm 23:4).

It is alright to have a change of plans, to adjust your course, to count the cost, to refactor your life, but never let fear step in and tell you that you cannot do this. Never turn back because you are afraid to go through with it. God always calls us to face the impossible situation that is beyond our own ability. That is when we begin to need Him.

Prayer: Father, I know that You have not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and self control. Help me put on the helmet of salvation and guard my mind against the thoughts of the enemy. With You on my side, I can face anything, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Kath Paro Dion~ I must not be awake yet!  I just saw the words, I couldn't take them in.  I read others comments then it clicked!  God is by my side, I fear no evil and can face any challenge just for today.  It's not just another day, it's a new day to be blessed and walk the talk.  My spirituality got jump started. Thanks!  Bless you, have a special day.

Twila Stierwalt Amen! God wants me to depend on Him, no matter what my circumstances are. I need Him to direct my steps. You can't have faith and fear at the same time. I know God wants me to live in peace.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Amen! To live a life of faith is to trust God no matter what the circumstances appear to be. Yes I said appear to be, because often what appears to be impossible is not, not with God in control, not with trust in Him, not with staying the course and remaining true to our faith. The things that we find impossible are not the slightest bit difficult to our God, releasing them to Him and surrendering to His will is the key to the tools needed to scale every mountain we will climb in this world. The view is awesome when we get to the top!

Albert Chau
Albert Chau It is easy to judge Israelites for wanting to go back to Egypt. But I had been through real life and death situation when there was no food or water for 4 days. All I can say is the mind and spirit might be willing to go on, but the body or flesh just wanted to quit.

Sylvia Schmidt
Sylvia Schmidt I chuckled when I read the title of this devotional today. I have had a few rough days teaching at the high school today which came to a head where I had some talks with students out in the hallway. I have been asking myself the question, should I have stayed at my college job and worked some more as educational assistant where my day was predictable and had a lot less responsibility and stress? I am finally working as a term teacher for a few months which I had dreamed to do again for a number of years. Took the jump and now am looking back at when things were easier at the college. Thanks Pastor. You always know what to say and when to say it. Amen!
