Do Not Be Dismayed from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about becoming “Dismayed.” To be dismayed means “to be downcast, disappointed, disheartened, filled with terror.” It replaces hope and will lead you to a dark place. We become ineffective and...

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2 WEBMy Dad was born during the great depression in the early 1930s...

But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives. In the end, he will stand upon the earth. After my skin is destroyed, then I will see God in my flesh, whom I, even I, will see on my side. My eyes will see, and not as a stranger. Job 19:25 WEBJob is the oldest book in the Bible, except for the first te...

The Black Sheep

  • Out of that terrible travail of soul, he’ll see that it’s worth it and be glad he did it. Through what he experienced, my righteous one, my servant, will make many “righteous ones,” as he himself carries the burden of their sins. Therefore I’ll reward him extravagantly— the best of everything, the highest honors—Because he looked death in the face and didn’t flinch, because he embraced the company of the lowest. He took on his own shoulders the sin of the many, he took up the cause of all the black sheep. Isaiah 53:11 ESV

As a child I grew up as the least of my family, who at the time was the least of another family. The youngest of thirteen kids and a stepchild on top of that. Every day it was made very clear to me that I did not belong and never would. My step-mom would put me and my brother out in the yard while she fed her kids breakfast. There were padlocks on the kitchen cabinets and the telephone for when she was gone. I grew up believing that I was nothing.

After enough pain, black sheep become closed off to the world. But be encouraged because Jesus has friends in low places and He came after me. Jesus redeemed me, added me to His family and healed my heart. He took up the cause of troubled and hurting people then and He will take your burden now if you let Him. Though people will mistreat you, God gave His own Son to buy you back, to redeem you. He does care.

Remember that today is the first day of the rest of your life. What you have been in the past is now gone and you decide who you will be from this day forward. Your brightest days are still ahead of you. Jesus will take your nothing, and make it into something if you give it to Him. In return, He will give you a life worth living. He embraces the lowest.
