The Appointed Time

For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won't prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won't delay. Habakkuk 2:3 WEB.

About thirty-five years ago, the Lord gave me a word that I would pioneer new things in ministry and for me to begin to prepare myself for it. I was so excited that I told some friends, but they thought I had "lost my senses."

Looking back on it, I guess it would have been hard for others to believe. I was no one, with no education, and from a long family line that didn't even attend church. Dad owned a dust-covered Bible, but no one read it. And almost everything they told me was in it wasn't. Most of what I knew turned out to be the traditions of men and personal preferences.

Yet, I believed what the Lord had told me and started attending a nearby Bible college. Eventually, I earned my degree and was ordained into the ministry. Then, instead of Him putting me into active ministry, He pushed me into working on computers for the next twenty years. I thought I had missed God somehow or maybe sinned one too many times. I eventually forgot about being in ministry altogether.

Instead of being in ministry, the Lord pushed me into my own computer business. Over the years, I became skilled at it. I learned to work on computers, websites, firewalls, and the servers and infrastructure that ran them daily. Then suddenly, He shut that door, and the business tanked.

The week we were preparing to move out of our home, I ended up in full-time ministry as a pastor. Now, we find ourselves building an online church using the computer skills He taught me along the way. We are beginning to do new things in ministry. The best is yet to come, for we are truly here for such a time as this.

God rarely calls the qualified, but He qualifies the one He calls. God's voice brings faith to accomplish the task with it. Your friends who didn't receive the word won't understand, but that won't matter, nor will it change your course.

The dream is for you alone, and those around you may never understand. Jesus' family didn't understand Him either. They thought He had "lost His senses" (Mark 3:21). Jesus said, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house" (Mark 6:4).

When God calls you to do something, He will also give you the faith to complete it. If you feel that He hasn't called you, volunteer as Isaiah did (Isaiah 6:8). Here I am! Send me! Please don't give up during the training or when it doesn't happen overnight. No one can stop God's plan for you except you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please make the vision clear and make me steadfast. Help me hold on to Your word, and give me the grace to get through this. Please help me focus on the right things and keep in step with You. My life is Yours. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!

Note: Today, we will be hosting our Wednesday morning prayer service at the usual time of 10:30am EST! This is a short service, about 15-20 minutes, where we pray together for any needs you would like to share. Hope to see y'all there! As always, if you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network.
