Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. Psalms 131:2 WEB.
Newborn infants tend to cry a lot. Anytime they want something, they cry for it. During this time, the parents are usually quick to look after them, partly out of love and partly to stop the noise. They may whine when you bring them food and when you take it away. They certainly cry when they are hungry, and they always want it immediately.
As the child grows and becomes weaned, they learn to wait for the food to be prepared. See, a weaned child will tell the parents they are hungry and then wait for it. Children grow to not be as needy and fussy as infants. They are content to play and carry on with their lives until the meal is finally served and they are called to eat.
You need to reach a point in your walk with the Lord where it no longer matters if you get what you want immediately. You learn to pray and wait confidently instead of giving in to panic and despair. Because no matter what happens, God is still on the throne.
When something doesn't make sense, pray about it and just put it on the back burner for a while. Don't let it consume the rest of your life and drive those around you crazy. If God hasn't given you the answer yet, learn to wait for it patiently like a weaned child.
Also, don't focus on one scripture you don't understand so much that you neglect the rest of the Bible. There are a lot of other verses in there to read. Try one of those. Pray about the one that confuses you, and let it rest a while. In His time, I find that God will usually provide the answer. We are big boys and girls now. We can learn to wait for a little.

It's so funny; I recently started working in a NICU and have seen firsthand how much babies cry. It's true, they cry about everything and have no patience at all! They make themselves sick crying if you can't get to them fast enough, and most of the time, it's just because they lost their binky. Tonight I was studying about their transition to life after birth, and there was a picture of a baby crying (you could tell he was angry!), and I asked God, "Why do babies cry so much?". He said, "To get their parents' attention in the beginning, for their safety". But I am convicted because I'm like a baby too. I constantly cry to God, feeling like He's so distant and worry when it feels like He's not there or responding to me... I'll make myself sick with anxiety. Sometimes I think He's abandoned me, and I ruminate on particular verses, thinking He's distant because I went too far or committed a sin too bad. And I'm embarrassed to say I've probably driven more people than I'd like to admit crazy because of it. But I thank God for His goodness, that He never left me, and is just trying to help me grow up. I need to trust that He's there and that He'll never leave me or forsake me

I feel the exact same way Suzanne... It's comforting to know that I'm not alone feeling like we feel. Thank you for sharing. And thank you for the job that you do. I don't think that nurse's and Drs get enough credit for their commitment to healing.
