Going Back to Egypt

Why does Yahweh bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be captured or killed! Wouldn't it be better for us to return into Egypt?" They said to one another, "Let's choose a leader, and let's return into Egypt." Numbers 14:3–4 WEB.

When the Israelites approached the land God had promised them, they stopped, and Moses sent out twelve spies to survey it. When the spies returned, all but Caleb and Joshua spoke of giants who lived in fortresses. They felt like grasshoppers compared to the inhabitants and believed there was no way they could defeat them. The Israelites were petrified with fear. They decided to stone Moses, choose another leader, and return to Egypt.

Yet God had not changed His mind. His promise still stood firm. He had brought them this far, and He would take them the rest of the way if they would have only stayed the course. It was the people's minds that had changed. They had lost their faith, given into fear, and wanted to turn back in a panic. They began to wonder if it was all worth it and began to tell themselves, "We cannot do this."

If you are still sucking air, then God has brought you this far. Though the road in front of you may look terrifying, trust Him. Don't turn back. God is still with you, and His plan has not changed. He will fulfill His promise, for God has not changed His mind. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for He is with me (Psalm 23:4). You stay with the last word given until a new one comes.

It's alright to change plans, adjust your course, recalculate the cost, and refactor your life, but never let fear step in and tell you that you can't do this. Never turn back because you are too afraid to go forward. God always calls us to face the impossible situation beyond our abilities, for that's where we need His help.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know that You have not given us a spirit of fear but one of power, love, and self-control. Please help me put on the helmet of salvation and guard my mind against the thoughts of the enemy. With You on my side, I can face anything. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
