Don't Stop Believing

  • Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers, and they hated him all the more. He said to them, 'Please hear this dream which I have dreamed: for behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and behold, your sheaves came around, and bowed down to my sheaf.' His brothers asked him, 'Will you indeed reign over us? Will you indeed have dominion over us?' They hated him all the more for his dreams and for his words. Genesis 37:5

Joseph was about forty years old now and was second-in-command of the most powerful nation on earth. Now as his brothers bowed down in front of him, he could still remember the dreams that God had given him when he was just a teenager, over twenty years ago. Though it took a long time, his dreams were now coming to pass.

God had shown Joseph through dreams that he would be raised up to be a leader and that his brothers would come bow down to him. He should probably have kept that to himself, but he told his brothers about it and they sold the 'Dreamer' as a slave (v. 28) to a group of merchants for twenty pieces of silver. His brothers said 'We will see what becomes of his dreams' (v. 20).

The merchants took Joseph to Egypt with them and once there, sold him to Potiphar, the captain of the guard. God was with Joseph, and everything that he did prospered. Soon Potiphar put him in charge of his entire house (Gen. 39:4).

Joseph served as a slave in his house until Mrs. Potiphar took a liking to him, for he was well-built and handsome. When Joseph spurned her advances, she framed him for attempted rape and Joseph was sentenced to prison.

God was with Joseph in prison. Everything that he did prospered and soon he was in charge of running the place. Joseph served wherever he was placed. Even prison did not stop his dreams from coming to pass, but instead helped to fulfill them.

Eventually Pharaoh had a dream that no one could interpret and a man that Joseph had interpreted a dream for in prison told Pharaoh about him. Joseph was brought out of the prison, interpreted the dreams, and was made second-in-command of Egypt. It happened suddenly, after decades of waiting.

God was with Joseph as a ruler as well and gave him wisdom on what to do. Soon, his jealous brothers who had sold him as a slave, came and bowed before him just as Joseph had seen in the dream. They needed food for their families. Joseph forgave them for what they had done. He realized that God had placed him here for a reason, because you can only connect the dots looking backward.

God gave Joseph a dream, and though it took a strange course, it all came to pass when it was time. At every stage it appeared that the dream was dead, that Joseph had missed it. Yet nothing, and no one, could stop it from coming to pass. Every bad act, like his brothers selling him as a slave, and Mrs. Potiphar accusing him of rape, simply pushed Joseph closer to his destiny.

No one has to believe in the dream that God has given you in order for it to come to pass. Even if they despise you and do things to harm you, it will just help fulfill what God has told you. Don't stop believing what God has told you secretly. Though the vision tarries, wait for it.

Prayer: Father, I wait for You and Your timing. I know that the plans that You have for me are good. I don't understand the methods at times, but I choose to trust in You. Give me a clear vision and help me keep a positive attitude while I wait, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Good morning! FYI, for FAAD members, this week''s chat will be "The Calm After the Storm" which should be an encouraging time to share about overcoming the storms in life! Haven of Hope, there is a new topic called "A New Journey Begins", which is a powerful and encouraging testimony you won''t want to miss! Finally, the highlight group of the week is "Dreams: Meaning and Purpose": this group is centered around the truth that God often communicates to His people through dreams. The Dreams group is a great place to share what the Lord has shown you, discuss interpretations, and grow in wisdom and discernment when it comes to hearing His voice. We encourage you to post your dreams, questions, and thoughts about this subject in this group. If you have any questions about these groups, please feel free to contact us!

Leslie McLea
Leslie McLea This morning, God speaks to me through your devotional. This has been a very difficult time for me. This time in the desert place has had many sandstorms, yet I continue to see God's hand reaching out for me, making a way when there seems to be no way, and sending little things to keep me encouraged. A week ago, I was taking one of those quizes on FB. This one had to do with my name. Somthing like what does your name mean. So I put my first name in. By the time the quiz was over this is what the restults showed:  LESLIE DON'T STOP BELIEVIN' You truely believe in the good. You know that one should ejoy life to its fullest. Every step we take, we'll let us expericne something new and beautiful. Sick to your beliefs and spread the word. While doing so listen to "DON'T STOP BELIEVIN" BY JOURNEY ' IT'S YOUR SONG!  ( its not a song I would have sought after, but it is a song that God chose to remind me) This little bit blew my mind, I had to print it off and listen to the song on Youtube. That was on January 31. So now, this morning I read this devotional 'DON'T STOP BELIEVING" by Pastor Dion and God speaks again and continues to remind me He is right here.   You have no idea where your encouragement is going to come from.  I did another quiz at another time in that quiz it revealed that my personal motto was 'BELIEVE". I have a couple of wooden cut outs within eye view to help me remember to BELIEVE.  Thank you Lord for Loving me so, for your continued encouragement, for your continued guidience and reashurance that everything is going to be ok. I love you !

Joan Joseph
Joan Joseph David tells us to wait on the Lord and be of good courage and he shall strengthen your heart(Psalms 27:14).  Gods way is always better, his timing is always perfect, he will give us strength and peace when we need it, just know he will never leaves us alone. This is something that I had to learn on my own to let Jesus take control of my life, just like Joseph did. The outcome is always better.  Great message Pastor Todd, may the Lord continue to bless you with his word. Amen.

Twila Stierwalt One of the best devotion's. I love this story of Gods timing, and trusting Him no matter what my circumstances are and most of all believing that God knows what He is doing no matter how long it takes. I love being in the hands of my God what security this gives me.

George V
George V After six months of looking for work, close to a hundred resume's sent out, recruiters not responding, and trying to make sense of why I'm unemployed and can't get a job.... I then read this devotional.  I've had my moments of disbelieve, angry, self-pity and yes depression.  But a funny thing happened along the way, God just seems to refuse to let me stay in that state of mind for very long.  My grace is sufficient has a whole new meaning to me.  I’m looking forward to HIS perfect plan coming to pass.  In the meantime, I choose to believe and will keep preparing myself every day leading up to that moment.  And then suddenly!

Teighlor Morris
Teighlor Morris The story of Joseph is one that the Lord has impressed upon me over the last couple of months. Everywhere I went, every article I read, it seemed I was seeing or hearing things about Joseph. Even in places where his story seemed not to fit, there it was. After a while of this, I finally decided that perhaps I'd better read up on Joseph again to see what the Lord was trying to reveal to me. I initially started reading where Joseph revealed his dreams, but I didn't want to miss anything and decided to roll a bit further back to Isaac. I read up until Joseph died, and thought that maybe I had gleaned what I was supposed to from his story, but I was still unsure. So, after I closed my Bible, I picked up a new book to start reading, and literally, there on the FIRST PAGE of the book, it was recapping Joseph's story. At that point, I felt that I had still missed the purpose, so I have been continuing to read his story. This article showed up in my newsfeed this morning after a friend shared it. It's perfect. Thank you!
