The Wonder of You from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about the wonder of the Lord. I believe that wonder is a great definition of what it feels like to have the Holy Spirit moving in your life. It can feel almost magical, surreal, at times you may ask yourself “I...

The Box

  • The donkey saw Yahweh's angel, and she lay down under Balaam. Balaam's anger burned, and he struck the donkey with his staff. Yahweh opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, 'What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?' Balaam said to the donkey, 'Because you have mocked me, I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you.' The donkey said to Balaam, 'Am I not your donkey, on which you have ridden all your life long until today? Was I ever in the habit of doing so to you?' He said, 'No.' Then Yahweh opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw Yahweh's angel standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face. Numbers 22:27 WEB

We all have a little box that we live in, that we cannot see out of. When we are born we usually start out in a crib, we grow bigger and eventually have a play pen, then our entire bedroom. Before long we are crawling around the house, and later out into the yard. We start school and our world grows bigger. We finally get our driver's license and drive around town thinking that we have arrived.

This is normal as kids. Our understanding of the world is made up of what we have seen in life so far, what we have experienced so far. We are always thinking that we have arrived and are at the top, even while in our crib, but then our world grows even bigger.

We are constantly growing, learning, and expanding. Even the universe continues to expand by the second. As we mature, we tend to set limits, stop expanding, stop believing, stop growing. We become a static, unchangeable mass of Christian beliefs, a monument of religion. Thus SAID the Lord' instead of Thus SAITH the Lord.

It is hubris to believe that we know everything about God and that He can do nothing new without our permission. The Bible was given to us as an anchor, a guide line, a measuring stick, and God will never contradict His word, but He will freely expand and correct our understanding of it.

Donkeys don't talk, until one did. People don't walk on water, until some did. Dead people don't come back to life, until some did. Understand that just because you have never seen it, does not mean that God cannot do it. His box is bigger than ours. At times in your life, the Lord may do something completely unexpected and you have to leave room for God to be God.

Prayer: Father, help me to always be on Your side. Let me see what You are doing on this earth and be a part of it, not against it. Give me a clear vision and let me see the world through Your eyes, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wyles Amen! We may never fully understand ALL of God's Mighty goodness and ways but I am confident he has my best interest at heart:)  "Understand that just because you have never seen it, does mean that God cannot do it. His box is bigger than ours." I'm pretty sure you meant DOESN"T in this sentence ;) if I understand it correctly. This is a great reminder that our Father always knows the whole picture while we only have a view of our tiny little boxes. Thanks for an inspired message again <3 Pastor's Prayer: Father, help me to always be on Your side. Let me see what You are doing on this earth and be a part of it, not against it. Give me a clear vision and let me see the world through Your eyes, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt I serve a big God, and need to believe this.  faith is belief in action. I also serve a can do God, that is not in a box. I pray that God will show me how big He is. Thank You God for the relationship You have with me. I love you and believe You with all my heart.

Sharon Peterson
Sharon Peterson   Amen to that. When we do get outside our little box it is amazing what the Lord will often do.  I was the oldest person in a Correctional Officer Training Academy.  A lot of people expected me to fail as it was like a boot camp. We had to run 3 miles a day, get beat up, firearms training etc. all on about 3 hours sleep per night. Running was difficult for me and one test the Lord lifted my feet off the ground as I flew past the class about 3 times over. I felt like I wasn't running and the Sargents and training advisors stopped running and was watching in amazement. I passed at the top of my class and graduated from the Academy when I was almost 50.  All thanks and praise to the Lord.  Believe me, none of it was my doing.

Norman Glaze Sr
Norman Glaze Sr Amen. Super Great advice! I remember a teaching many years ago about how difficult it is to obtain a "Paradigm Shift". Expanding, or rebuilding our little box is an extreme challenge. Indeed, all Christians should always have the willingness to Grow Spiritually/Mentally in every good way.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Sometimes we have to wait for His wisdom and guidance.  If we don't know what to do,  we need to bring it before God and wait patiently for His direction. Waiting patiently may be hard but it is well worth the wait. Otherwise we try to determine the outcome ourselves and what a disaster that can be!
