They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea to go around the land of Edom. The soul of the people was very discouraged because of the journey. The people spoke against God and against Moses: "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, there is no water, and our soul loathes this disgusting food!" Numbers 21:4'5 WEB.
The Israelites slowly marched towards the promised land. It was only an eleven-day journey, according to Deuteronomy 1:2. However, it took them forty years because of their bad attitudes and disobedience. They were continually grumbling things like, "I am thirsty!", "Where is the food" and "Are we there yet?"
When God did provide food for them, they hated it. They despised manna, the bread from heaven! Numbers 11:6 tells us: "but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!"
While they were busy complaining, God led them around and around the same mountain until they all perished. The complainers never entered the promised land, for all died in the wilderness. Their children were allowed to go there later with Joshua and Caleb.
It is human nature to want to get where we are going. We set out to go somewhere and just want to get there. We are always looking at tomorrow: When the weekend comes, we are going to' When our vacation comes, we are going to' When we retire, we are going to' We are often so focused on the future that we ignore what is happening around us today.
Remember this: Your life is happening now while you are on this journey. Your attitude and how you react to events will determine how long it takes you to reach your goals. Delight yourself in the Lord, and then He will give you the desires of your heart. Enjoy this day while it is still today, lighten up and laugh a little. Keep a positive attitude. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You so much for the food You have provided me. I appreciate it. Thank You for all that You do for me. Thank You that I am still breathing today. I am not ashamed to say that my help comes from You, Lord. I am truly grateful. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
