If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances, "Don't handle, nor taste, nor touch" (all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men? These things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imp...

Faith or Fear

  • Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 'How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me. Tell them, As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you' Numbers 14:26 WEB

After seeing miracles everyday in the wilderness, like mana from heaven, pillars of fire, parting seas, water from rocks, knee deep quail around their camp, the Israelites came to the border of the Promised Land. There they sent spies to look over the land and ten of them brought back a bad report. They spoke of giants in the land that made them feel like grasshoppers. The camp panicked and wanted to return to Egypt.

While the Israelites grumbled and complained, the Lord was listening. When He had heard it enough, He decided to do the very thing that he heard them say with their own mouth. In this case, they prophesied their own future. The Israelites said 'We are going to die in this wilderness', and the Lord said, "Have it your way."

Here we learn about God's perfect will, and His permissive will for us. He wanted the Israelites to enter the Promised Land, but they were paralyzed with fear and refused. Their own fear shaped their destiny. Faith is believing that God will come through for you, that this is going to be OK. Fear is the opposite, believing that He will not take care of you, that you cannot do this, that you will die if you try it.

All the great heroes in scripture faced their fear and spoke positive things into their situation. While the army of Israel cowered in fear, David looked at the giant Goliath and said: 'This day will Yahweh deliver you into my hand; and I will strike you, and take your head from off you; and I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel' (1 Samuel 17:46).

God has great plans for you, plans to give you hope and a future, but we need to agree with Him. The enemy also has a plan for us: to steal, kill, and destroy. The words coming out of your mouth will shape your attitude, your beliefs, and confirm which side you are really on. We get to choose.

Don't speak curses over your own life and family. Do not let doom and gloom control your speech and thoughts. When you do this you are just feeding the enemy ammunition to use against you. Agree with God: 'I don't know how, but this is going to work out for good.' Say what you would like to happen if you could choose, because that is what you are doing.

Prayer: Father, help me to stand strong in the face of fear. Fill me with Your glorious presence and help me to face whatever comes my way. I choose You, and though I am weak, with You I am strong. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wyles Amen! Wise words spoken! I am one of those who tend to curse myself with negative talk from time to time. I am a work in progress and this is an area I am working hard at changing. Sometimes you get in a rut and don't even realize it's your bad attitude that's keeping you there! And then reality slaps you hard and you have to decide if your going to stay in that rut or climb out! A Positive attitude is what helps to pull you out so much faster! Thank you pastor. Pastor's Prayer: Father, help me to stand strong in the face of fear. Fill me with Your glorious presence and help me to face whatever comes my way. I choose You, and though I am weak, with You I am strong. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Teresa Hyman I really needed to hear this today.  With such a low balance in my check book bills coming due and having to take my dog in for kidney flushing treatments i pray daily that God provides the ways and the means possible to take care of this.  whether it's through friends, family, people or circumstances, the choice is his to make and I accept that.

Sharon Peterson
Sharon Peterson Tye I was in a similar situation about 2 years ago. I really wanted to leave NY knowing how much more the West had to offer.  I was scared as I  am older also.  I got on a plane with only my suitcase.  The first 6 months were very difficult for me but I knew that was satan trying to steal what God wanted to bless me with. Now I have a beautiful apartment, perfect weather and so many blessings to be thankful for.  I will remember to keep you in prayer that when you make this step of faith move you will be abundantly blessed. Just keep the faith no matter what the enemy tries.

MP (Mary Pat) Taylor
MP (Mary Pat) Taylor What a powerful message! And so true!  I have severe asthma, and as a child I was told I could not be around any animals with fur. I also, as long as I can remember, have had a great love and understanding of animals.  I remember at one point thinking to myself that it didn't make sense that God would create me with a love of animals and also a disease that keeps me from them. So, I said to myself, well, obviously, the asthma would have to go, since God clearly means for me to be around animals.  Before any no medications came along, I was able to gradually work our family dog to being in the main part of the house without causing me problems. I was able to spend all the time I wanted with her, and we were able to get a second dog, a gerbil, and a budige (parakeet). I was even able to take horseback riding lessons, and help out at a friends famr.   I still have severe asthma, but I still have a houseful of animals, mostly rescues. God's Will does prevail if you trust in it and allow Him to work.  The wrold can take that perfect trust of a child away if we let it, but you can get it back. I have had to work to get it back and keep it, but am holding on to God's promises with all my strenght and all my heart.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Just what I needed to hear. I have been under attack the last few days. Emotional attack, fatigue and suffering a migraine.. I fervently prayed for release. Whenever I am doing God’s work the enemy comes in for the kill. Today I am empowered,  strengthened , free of pain and in His peace. He is always faithful to come to my rescue.
