The cock crowed the second time. Peter remembered the word, how that Jesus said to him, 'Before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times.' When he thought about that, he wept. Mark 14:72 WEB
Peter had just finished telling Jesus that he would die for Him, and then denied that he even knew Him three times in a row. Sometime later Peter mastered this fear as he was crucified by Nero upside down, because he saw himself as unworthy to be crucified the same way that Jesus was. He stopped denying the Lord, and did die for Him just as he had promised.
We do not face the weaknesses that we have just once, but multiple times, until we master it. It is not 'once clean, always clean' either. I have seen people fall right back into something that they crawled out of more than once. If you lose your temper every time someone does something, you will face that something time and time again.
A good friend of mine called it 'Taking another lap around the mountain.' Just as Israel spent forty years circling a mountain in the wilderness, we can spend forty years of our life circling the same mountain.
Learn from the things that upset you. Be on guard, for sin crouches at the door. When you feel it coming, face it with a smile and the right attitude. Pass the test and when you beat it, chances are that you will never have to face it again. Or we can take another lap.
Prayer: Father I tire of facing this same problem again and again. Forgive me and give me the grace and wisdom to deal with this once and for all. Guide me and help me make the right decisions. Give me a clear warning when the test is coming, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
