Man On The Run

Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I don't make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time!" When he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. Then he requested for himself that he might die, and said, "It is enough. Now, O Yahweh, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers." 1 Kings 19:1'4 WEB.

Yesterday, the prophet Elijah was a man to be reckoned with. He had called down fire from heaven and defeated hundreds of false prophets at Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:38). Elijah ended a three-year drought in the land by praying (1 Kings 18:42). He had multiplied food, raised the dead, and even raced a horse on foot and won! Yes, the prophet Elijah was king of the hill.

Now, Elijah was a man on the run. He was fleeing for his life from that rotten Queen Jezebel, who hated him. One of the greatest prophets of the Bible was now scared, alone, depressed, and praying to die. Even though he had seen so many powerful miracles in the past. Elijah was tired, burnt out, and he didn't want to continue on. He was now down in the valley, and he didn't want anymore, so he prayed to end it. The Lord understood and told him to anoint Elisha, who would become his successor. Then He took Elijah home in a whirlwind.

If you do anything meaningful for God, there will be resistance. Sometimes the greatest successes in life are followed by pure and utter failure. There is often a backlash that follows your breakthrough. So don't be alarmed if things suddenly go wrong after you win a major victory. This trouble will pass. We may not win every battle, but we will win the war. Stand your ground and stay in the fight. When you fall, get back up. What has been lost can be recovered. The end of a thing can be better than the beginning.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for all that You do for me. Please strengthen me and confirm Your words to me. Let me know that I am in the right place and doing Your will. Help me to recognize when You are speaking to me. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
