In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are ...

Here I Am

  • The child Samuel ministered to Yahweh before Eli. The word of Yahweh was precious in those days; there was no frequent vision. It happened at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place (now his eyes had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see), and the lamp of God hadn't yet gone out, and Samuel had laid down to sleep, in the temple of Yahweh, where the ark of God was; that Yahweh called Samuel; and he said, Here am I.' 1 Samuel 3:1 WEB

The flickering of the lamp still gave light to the room where Samuel was sleeping. He was now about twelve years old and was serving at the temple. That night the Lord began to speak to him. The high priest of Israel was sleeping just a few doors down that night, but the Lord spoke to young Samuel instead.

When we want something done, we like to speak to those at the top. God will often go the other way, and start at the bottom. It is not the position that you hold that determines who the Lord will speak to. If that were the case, then the Lord would have spoken to the high priest that night instead of the little servant boy. God looks at the heart, the inner person (1Sam. 16:7).

I once heard a preacher say that God will never speak to you about those 'in authority' over you, but he was simply to trying to stem gossip in that church. That is near cultish thinking and hubris to think that God is your pet, and that He will only speak to those that you permit Him to. This verse immediately came to mind. God speaks to whoever He wants to, without getting our permission.

Will the Lord speak to you? Absolutely, 'My sheep hear My voice' (John 10:27). Remember to check it against scripture and know that He will always confirm His word in various ways so you will know that it is Him. You just need to say: Here I am!

Prayer: Father I am listening today. Speak to me in a way that I understand and confirm Your word to me. I want to walk closer with You, to know You and Your ways better. Break me out of whatever is holding me back. Here I am Lord, use me. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wylesedited: December 4, 2015 Here I am!!! That's funny...I say that to my husband all the time! He asked me one day why I say that every time he says my name. I just laughed and told him I was quoting scripture ;) I love reading from the old testiment! So much rich history and so much to learn from. My husband, not so much... he prefers to read all about Jesus. Says "That's the old covenat and we are now under the new one by faith in Jesus." I get that but still think the old testament has many valued lessons to apply to today. Agree to disagree is what we do here or we could debate all day ;)  Wonderful  message today Pastor. Thank you. It's all about what's in your heart! Here I Am Lord!! I want to listen!! I want to follow!!! I am here and ready! Pastor's Prayer: Father I am listening today. Speak to me in a way that I understand and confirm Your word to me. I want to walk closer with You, to know You and Your ways better. Break me out of whatever is holding me back. Here I am Lord, use me. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. AMEN

Ryan Martinez What i thought was funny was the use of the word sheep. People will try to attack you verbally and call you a sheep if you dont agree with them. I will now tell them i am one of the sheep, one of gods sheep and he doesnt tell me to act like you.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield God most definitely speaks to me, but one thing I need to remember (and here's another message from the Bible!) God's voice may not be  heard in the wind or the thunder, but if I listen to the breeze, I'm more likely to hear that small whisper! Especially early in the morning, just as I get out of bed, I often hear God as clearly as I can hear my dog bark.I just need to pay attention!

Cheryl Hepler So powerful...what a friend in Jesus we have..... a Holy Father who cares..... Leaving us His Holy Spirit the Teacher of Truth that is desperately needed I this growing darker world.  Discernment is a great gift!!  God is so good!  He has not missed detail of our needs.  Gifts of fruit & gifts of the Holy Spirit!!  Thank you for the story of who God speaks to. In my years growing up ,I felt not to fit in or never be with those in school who were achievers.  This news Jesus proclaimed & sought me with was " a blow my mind experience "!!
