You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith. In the same way, wasn't Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead. James...

However you are just in all that is come on us; for you have dealt truly, but we have done wickedly; neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept your law, nor listened to your commandments and your testimonies with which you did testify against them. For they have not ser...

However, what things were gain to me, these have I counted loss for Christ. Yes most assuredly, and I count all things to be loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain Christ and be...

The Captain

  • He took a towel, and wrapped a towel around his waist. Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. Then he came to Simon Peter. He said to him, 'Lord, do you wash my feet?' Jesus answered him, 'You don't know what I am doing now, but you will understand later.' Peter said to him, 'You will never wash my feet!' John 13:4 WEB

At the last supper, only Jesus understood that this would be the last time that they would share a meal together on earth. It was customary before a passover meal for you to ceremonially wash at home, but as you walked to dusty roads to go to the supper, your feet would get dirty.

A servant would typically wash the guests feet to refresh them before the meal. According to Jewish tradition, a Jewish servant was not asked to wash people's feet. The lowly task was assigned to gentile servants.

When they arrived at the supper, there was no servant at all. The disciples looked around at each other and they all sat down. None of them were going to perform such a menial task. Jesus rose and began to wash their feet, even those of Judas.

They sat in silence as Jesus washed the feet of one disciple after another, until He came to Peter. You could count on Peter to speak his mind, and Peter rebuked Jesus. The King of all Kings, was also a servant. The disciples did not understand, but later, after the events that followed came to pass, they understood what He was doing.

In my life, there has been so many times where I did not understand what was going on. How could this even happen? After the storm passed though, it made sense. Looking back on the events, I can see how God used circumstances to steer me like the rudder of a ship to get where I needed to go.

Jesus could see what was coming. The disciples could not. It all worked out just the way that it was supposed to. God does not tell us everything, and if He did, we would not understand it all just like the disciples. God is the Captain of the ship and He tells us what we need to know to do our part. He tells other people their parts, and then He takes care of the rest.

You may be facing something that you do not understand and God seems to be doing some weird things, or nothing at all. Why is this happening? Give it time. God reserves the right be God sometimes and does not explain it to us. He knows what He is doing, where this is going, and it is our part to trust Him.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for guiding me today. Put me where I need to be to serve You the best. Cut me loose from the things that hold me back. Speak to me in a way that I understand and fulfill Your perfect will in my life, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wyles Amen!! Amen!! More often than not, I go into a situation not really understanding what or why it is happening, but the good lord has blessed me with the knowledge that I don't have to know everything, I only need to trust that his plan is better than mine. It's ALWAYS is better than my plan. I give my worries to God daily, even though I take them back often. It can be like a see-saw sometimes as I give it all to God and take it back then give it to him again and so on. Luckly God loves me regardless of how many times in a day I try to trump his plan.  Father, I thank You for guiding me today. Put me where I need to be to serve You the best. Cut me loose from the things that hold me back. Speak to me in a way that I understand and fulfill Your perfect will in my life, help me stop taking back the things I need to release to you and give me rest from my ever over analizing brain. in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.  Thanks once again Pastor. Always on time:) Happy Monday

Mari Kaufmann
Mari Kaufmann This is how my life feels. My husband was a boat captain most of his life and the captain of our home. He's passed away now and I face this situation with my daughter turning to drug us end now I watch her children. I ask God daily to fix this mess and wonder why after more than two years she still doesn't take the straight and narrow road back to her family. Please God hasten to get her on the road to recovery. Please. Amen.

Rich Morgan Praying for you now in Bonnie Scotland.  I find it frustrating when God prefers his timing to mine.  Especially because I think I know better.  I do know that God knows best but it does not seem that way at all times. Anyway, you are in my prayers just now.

Tina Poeche This passge is really what I needed to have.  I fall into this dark pit a lot. Keeping my eye on God and listening to Him is so important.  Patients is very hard for me.  I need to be reminded to wait and not to jump.  Thank you Jesus for staying with me and gripping my hand pulling me out of the dark pit.  Al my life I have cared for others leaving myself behind.  It Has been really difficult to think of myself and letting someone take care of me.  God has been so Goood and patient with me.  Forgiving me for falling away.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield This devotional really made me pause to think--and realize that there is so much about God that is a mystery! Both the Bible and life in general can be confusing, so I should call upon theHoly Spirit to give me that wisdom I need to understand what God expects from me. God's ways are not like our ways--maybe I simply need to realize this and stop questioning Him so often!
