A Living Sacrifice from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Various sacrifices were required under the old covenant. Some of the sacrifices helped feed the priests and those who worked at the temple, but a burnt offering was placed on the altar and completely consumed by fire. You can read about...

Intervention

  • He came into a house. The multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. When his friends heard it, they went out to seize him: for they said, 'He is insane.' The scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, 'He has Beelzebul' Mark 3:19'22 WEB

When I first got saved, I lost every friend that I had, but quickly gained new ones in my church family. I was born an American heathen, and the friends that I had scattered like roaches when a light is turned on at the mention of Jesus.

Have you ever shared your faith with someone who just thought that you had lost it and had them ask, "What has happened to you?" I have. Radical was natural, but subtlety was something that I had to learn.

It is comforting to know that when Jesus was on earth, at one point His own family thought that He was 'out of His mind.' They staged an intervention and tried to seize Him. His family and friends thought that He had lost it: 'For not even his brothers believed in Him' (John 7:5). To make matters even worse, the religious leaders from Jerusalem thought that He was possessed.

No one that previously knew Jesus seemed to understand His calling. When Jesus visited His hometown of Nazareth, they were offended at Him and said: 'Isn't this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?' They were offended at him. Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house' (Mark 6:3'4).

When you get turned onto God and the little fire within you becomes a flame, the world will quickly turn its back on you. You may find that your enemies are those of your own household (Matt. 10:36). Expect it, it simply means that you are on the right path. The things that you lose for the sake of Christ will be returned with better.

Also note that Jesus did not pursue His family or those that disagreed with Him with scripture to try and convince them or win them over. He simply moved on to those that would listen. He gave His disciples the 'Shake it off' rule (Mark 6:11). When they will not receive your message, shake it off and go to the next town. We should do likewise.

Prayer: Father, strengthen me and give me a fresh boldness for You. Give me tact and help me recognize the right time to share with others. Put a guard over my mouth and give me the right words to speak. I thank You so much for all that You have done for me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Good morning! For any who may not know, we are available to pray for you! To send in a prayer request, just click on the "Prayer" link on the site menu (you do need to be signed in). We and our prayer partners will be honored to lift you up to the Lord. Some people have mentioned that they do not want to "bother" us by asking more than once for ongoing issues. Please do not worry about that, because that is what we are here for! Have a blessed day :)!

Mark Duell
Mark Duell Amen. Sometimes when your witnessing to someone you just get that feeling that theres no sense in wasting another breath. But then there are others that the Holy Spirit tells you to keep pushing.

David and Dianna Wyles Haha! I often feel like the one out of my mind:) I have been told delivery is everything... guess I gotta work on the delivery of the message;) Shaking it off is the best when your faith is not being recieved well, but it is easier said than done some days. Thank you for this message and for your ever listening ear to God's word. Blessings

Christie Smith
Christie Smith The word say's to dust your feet off and move on.  Absolutely know the feeling.  Intervention is a great topic as I need some today, hopefully to restore a very strained relationship that puts me in a deep depression.  I also know that God is my true Heavenly Father but do ask for prayers for some intervention as I see my Therapist tonight for advice.  Amen

Gail Sellu
Gail Sellu Amen, God is always on time. I read something my niece posted on FB, about needing someone in the family to take the lead. There was much I wanted and could say; however, I didn't. I chose to keep quiet until God puts it in my heart to speak so that I will say it correctly. You must be careful what you ask for and be ready when it is given to receive.

Jim Jarrell
Jim Jarrell I hope every one knows that this can even happen in your Church. When you have a radical expierance, it will change you. When you start to share you faith from a point of confidence, some people do not understand you and will be completely turned of by your faith.

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt Myrna, I will pray for you, I kinda know how you feel, not the same cituations, but have had a lot of illness the last4 years, but I have learned, and am learning that God is in control. He has taught me to wait on Him, and I have learned to serve Him in new ways. What peace He has shown me. I can't explain it but He has turned what I thought was very bad things around for my good. Keep in His word and He will teach you things that You can praise Him for. He will pick you up with His wings and never let you drown.

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt Amen!. His word says that the lost do not undsrstand spiritual things, because Gods Spirit is not in their life. We have to just keep living our life for our God and then God will draw them to Himself. Some chose Him and some do not.

Norman Glaze Sr
Norman Glaze Sr Man, I remember that happening to me verbatim. My old "friends", did scatter like Roaches at The Name of Jesus. And the ones that couldn't get away quickly enough, looked at me like I'd just got off the boat. Many that I shared my New Love for Jesus with, reminded me not to Cast My Pearl before Swine, because they did stomp My most Precious Friend, and my new Faith, under their feet and did turn around and rend me! Great words Pastor, and great advice about the Shake Off principle. I'd have a lot less Spiritual Scars if I'd have learned that early on. Love and Prayers

Laura B. Martinez
Laura B. Martinez Amen Pastor Todd. We cannot make or force people to believe in all of Jesus' promises to us. We can just pray for them and let them see through us the wonderous deeds he does, if we allow him in our hearts and lives.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Amen! Being married to a pre-believer I can relate to everything Jesus went through with His own family. I have learned to pray that I speak to my spouse about my beliefs at the proper times and at others I remain silent. God is faithful to reveal to me not only when I should speak but what I should say. My husband listens and does not argue or become angry during these times. It is through God’s guidance that I am able to witness to Jim what my faith has done for me and our family.

Tina Poeche
Tina Poeche What an inspiring topic!  Thank you! My son is an atheist and mocks me or argues with me awful.  I can't read the bible or listen to inspirational music without being ridiculed.   I keep it quiet.  My siser who once was Christian suddenly became a non-beliver and has joined the Wicken pagan what ever it is. So worry about her when JESUS comes for us.  All i can do is pray.  I'm amongst so much negative it makes it hard to stay focused but am so glad I read this today.  Thank you!  And thank you Jesus.

Debbie Bible
Debbie Bible Tina, I can relate to what you're saying. My daughter is into Buddism (so she says, I don't see the peace), and my husband is a doubter. For me, it does make it more difficult to be focused. Also, I don't want to alienate either of them from the truths I know. Thanks, Pastor Dion, for this message.

Deanne Rascas
Deanne Rascas This really hits home for me! My oldest brother was on fire for Jesus. He would try to preach to my 3 other brothers, but to no avail! They said they believed in God, but lived their lives as the people of this world. Bill didn't have to lead me to Jesus because I was already a practicing and on fire for the Lord, Christian. My brothers would tell me that they would just hate when he called. I talked to my brother Bill and told him to leave it in Gods hands and just pray for them instead. He became upset and said he would never give up trying. I told him he wouldn't be giving up, but that they can't be approached by anyone and that you should leave it in Gods hands to convict and stir their hearts. Never under estimate the power of prayer! My brother has gone to be with Jesus now , but I continue to pray for my brothers!

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield The exact opposite happened to me when I fell in love with Jesus--I finally found REAL friends! Up until the time I accepted Christ as my Savior, I only had acquaintanes--not true friends at all.I even met a wonderful friend here, at Refreshing Hope (Hi, Julie!) So I must thank you, Pastor Todd, for my newfound --and true--friendship!
