Yahweh said to Gideon, By the three hundred men who lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand; and let all the people go every man to his place. So the people took food in their hand, and their trumpets; and he sent all the men of Israel every man to his tent, but retained the three hundred men: and the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley. Judges 7:7 WEB
Facing an army that could not even be counted, Gideon and his men walked down to the water. He had started this mission with 32,000 men which was already too small a number. God then told Gideon to send all the men that were fearful back home, and over two-thirds (22,000) of the army left (Judges 7:3).
Now there were only 10,000 men left with him and to make matters worse, God wanted to divide those as well so he took them down to the water and God sorted them again. When Gideon came up from the water, he had only 300 men left with him, but God said that was enough to accomplish the mission, and it was.
Gideon had more than enough in front of him, but he did not realize it. He was scared when he had 32,000 men with him, but was victorious with 300. Jesus took a few fish and fed thousands (Matt. 15:38, Mark 6:44). Peter preached a sermon that caused 3,000 people to come to the Lord in one meeting (Acts 2:41).
Sometimes we have more than enough right in front of us, yet we do not see it. We often learn that God has already provided what we need, we just don't know how to use it or we let fear cause us to not believe Him. Our limitation is always what we do not know, not what we don't have. 'My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge' (Hosea 4:6).
Prayer: Father, please help me see the things that You have already placed in my life and teach me to use them properly. Lord I know that You know best and I submit to Your will for my life. Teach me what I need to know. Guide me into all that You have for me. I am Yours, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
