Living Right When Wronged

Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he stuck the spear into the wall. David fled, and escaped that night. 1 Samuel 19:10 WEB

King Saul was jealous of his son-in-law David. Completely consumed by rage, he attempted to murder David with a spear. David evaded him and left the city. Saul became an evil man, and though he refused to kill all the Amalekites when the Lord asked him to (1Samuel 15:9), he was fine with completely wiping out the Lord's priests, their families, and their livestock (1Samuel 22:19).

Once when David literally caught Saul with his trousers down, the men with him in the cave were excited and thought this was a gift from God, Saul on a platter, but David spared him (1Samuel 24:4). Another time David and Abishai crept up on Saul while he was sleeping and took his spear. Abishai wanted to finish the job and pin Saul to the ground, saying, 'I will not have to strike him twice' (1Samuel 26:8).

Time after time, David was given the opportunity to kill Saul, but he refrained. David was a better man, and because of the calling on his life, he would not stoop to Saul's level. David had killed thousands of men in battle, including Goliath. He was certainly not afraid of Saul. David wanted to do the right thing. He wanted to please God and would not harm the one that God had anointed as king. Instead he waited on God. The day finally came when God made it right, and David became the king.

Don't stoop to your enemies' level. Because of the calling on your life, you need to take the high ground. In time, God will make it right. Two wrongs will never equal right, but right will always be right. God sees the things that you are going through and He has an amazing memory. God's delay is not His denial.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank You for waking me up this day. Please give me the grace to overcome, the wisdom to make the right decisions, and the strength to stand strong when all the winds blow against me. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
