Hezekiah prospered in all his works. However concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart. 2 Chronicles 32:30 WEBWhile attending classes at a school, t...

Now after the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, Yahweh spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' servant, saying, 'Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go across this Jordan, you, and all these people, to the land which I am giving to them, even to the children of Israel. I have given you...

Fear Not from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about fear, and the importance of pressing on even though we are afraid. When God calls you to do something, often fear is the first guardian that will be sent to stop you from accomplishing it. The Apostle Paul wrote to Timo...

Seventy-Two Hours

  • And when David and his men came to the city, they found it burned with fire, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept until they had no more strength to weep. 1 Samuel 30:2 ESV

David stood amidst the burned ashes of his city with tears running down his face. Though he was anointed as king years ago, he had been running from Saul ever since. Now while the men were away, Amalekites had burned the city and carried off all of their wives and children. His own men were talking of stoning him to death. This was a difficult time for David. One that would break most men, but he strengthened himself in God (1 Sam 30:6).

In seventy-two hours, everything changed (2 Sam 1:2). With God's help, David rescued their families and recovered all (1 Sam 30:18). Saul died during a battle with the Philistines (1 Sam 31:3). They made David king over Judah (2 Sam 2:4). The breakthrough was so close and things that had not changed for years, were now only hours away. David did not know this and if he had given up and fallen on his sword, he would have missed the greatest years of his life.

It is always darkest right before the breakthrough. The battle can become so intense that you want to quit, but hang on. A lot can change in seventy-two hours. You are closer than ever to seeing the promises of God fulfilled in your life.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me a heart like David that will trust You even in the face of adversity. Strengthen me Lord and help me to see past the problem, in the name of Jesus I pray.

Mark Duelledited: October 10, 2015 Amen. A lot of power and strength in this devotional. How easy it would have been for David just to give up and say I've had enough. It's not worth it anymore. I think a lot of us find ourselves in these similiar situations. Whether it be a church, a volunteer orginization or at work. We forget He has put us where we are at for a reason. Is it to stregthen us or make a change for the better through His strength? I'm preaching to myself here. (each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.) I think the key here is what David didn't allow his heart to dwell on and that was the bitterness as described. Thank you Pastor Todd for the time you put into the devotionals. Everyone have a great weekend.

Deleted Member Amen, it is so true, at the end of the trials and battles we face, we come closer to Jesus and love Him more and more, satan just don't have sense enough to realize, he is only pushing us into the arms of Jesus, through our trials, by praying more, reading and studying His Word, living so others see the light of Jesus in us, as the devotion said, The best is yet to come.

Lesa M. Merrill
Lesa M. Merrill i woke this morning wondering if I should give up on the fight I've been fighting the last several (7) years. I'm exhausted and from my viewpoint it looks like there is no hope of renewal and restoration of my situation. I then asked God to speak to me through the devotionals I read this morning. And here is His instruction! Wow!  Now, I pray for His strength to carry me through this, I Cannot make it though by myself. Thank You Abba Father ! Amen.

Martin Snyder
Martin Snyderedited: October 10, 2015 You know, the way I look at things, if I am traveling along a right path and speed bumps and road blocks and detours keep popping up, I must be on the right path, doing something right or else things wouldn't be going so wrong. I praise God in this storm and pray for the strength of faith to keep on keepin' on - as Steve Winwood said, you've got to "Roll With It". He (God, not Steve Winwood) is the lamp for my feet and the light for my path, and since the addition of the Holy Spirit, the guardrail, complete with reflectors, to keep me from finding myself belly-up in the ditch!

Sylvia Todd Haha, the "God, not Steve Winwood" comment made me laugh :). Agreed, Martin, if we weren't doing something right, the enemy wouldn't have to bother to try to stop us!

Deleted Member Amen to that, I must be doing something right, because the enemy sure does like to bother me. LOL, satan is like a pesty fly, you keep slapping at it with your hands and you finally get tired of it, so you get a fly swatter and squash that fly.

Deleted Member Amen, all those speed bumps, road blocks, detours, makes us want to hold on even stronger, because we are not gonna let satan win the battle, because Jesus has already won it and we will receive our heavenly reward one day and it will have been worth all the battle scars we might have had.

Kathy Banfield Amen! 27 years ago today, I was tired and weak from hours of intense labor (they call it that for a reason) and just when I told my doctor I couldn't last another second, he told me to wait--and my son came into the world! I can really relate to todays devotional!

Deleted Member Amen, Kathy, when you felt you could bear no more, then all of a sudden the pain was gone and a beautiful baby boy because your joy and the pain was gone. That's how it is with Jesus, even in our trials and sadness, and we feel we can't bear no more, guess what, Jesus shows up on the scene and our sorrow is turned into joy. Thank You Jesus for loving us so much.
