The Long Run

  • Behold, today I am going the way of all the earth. You know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which Yahweh your God spoke concerning you. All have happened to you. Not one thing has failed of it. Joshua 23:14 WEB

Joshua had served God his whole life. He grew up in the presence of the Lord and as a young man he never departed from the tent of meeting where the Lord's presence settled (Ex 33:11). The speech he gave in Joshua 23:14 happened when he was 110 years old.

Joshua had been one of the twelve spies sent to look at the promised land (Num. 14:6), and later he led the people through countless battles as they entered it. Though at times things looked bad, and sometimes Joshua had to lay on his face (Joshua 7:6), God always came through in the long run.

So many times in my life it has looked hopeless when really, hope was right around the corner, but I just could not see it. Each time I would start to panic because I did not know what to do, but God would still come through. Sometimes things only make sense when looking backwards.

Do not panic in the short term, for God will work it out. The thing you fear that is coming is not actually here yet, and if it arrives God will give you the grace for it when needed, not in advance. Take heart, God always comes through in the long run. We like to be prepared for anything, but He wants us to learn to stand firm in our faith and trust Him.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your faithfulness. You have brought me this far and I know that You are able to take care of me. I should know this by now. Forgive me for ever doubting You and touch my life today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Nell Neathery
Nell Neathery Amen!  Praise God for bringing me through the long run, finally slowing me down to walk...and pray...with Him since 2009, even though at that time, I did not know where I was going to end up (and praying), and now He has me where He wants me to be once again at 59 years of old since I gave my all in 2012, accepting to be His servant.   Now, if He would just touch my daugther's life so she would start believing in Jesus and praying in Jesus' name.  She believes in God...how can she not believe in Jesus and the Holy Spirit?!?!...if she would only believe they are One and the Same..the Holy Trinity, her life would slow down at 29 years old while she has a 15 month old baby boy and expecting another baby boy in November.  She has recently lost a boyfriend who has gone to jail after abusing her and doing drugs.  In the meantime, she was evicted from her home after the electricity and water were cut off.  She is now at my house and has been abusing me.   The manager of the apartments has notified me that she now needs to leave, and the adoption agency is due to visit her here at 1 p.m. today.  Please keep her in your prayers that she makes the right decision.  I don't know if the adoption agency will be providing her assistance, hoping they can place her in her own home or in a ladies' and childrens' home for the time being.  She wants to go back to her boyfriend.  I fear for her safety and the childrens' safety while she is with him, and I fear for my safety while she is with me.  I can't take it mentally, emotionally, or physically, but I am trying to stay strong spiritually to help her get through this, but it is time she grows up and accepts responsibility for her own self.  I learmed lessons the hard way...my tests have become my testimony; my mess has been become my message; my trials have become my triumphs in Jesus' name...my biggest desire is to hear her say this, thank God for helping her through the long run, and move forward by walking with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit on her side and while she is on her knees at time (like I have shown her how to do many times).  thanks once again and have a blessed day!  :-)

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Amen!  In my life many times I was sure God was opening a door only to find that one slammed shut. Shortly after more doors opened that led to making a choice, if I prayed for wisdom and guidance He led me through the right door, if I didn't and went through a door without consulting Him it led to another trial. I have learned to pray in all decisions and wait for His direction, even if it means a long wait.

Stacie Chambers-Franklin
Stacie Chambers-Franklin Good stuff!!! :) I especially love the line: "So many times in my life it has looked hopeless when really, hope was right around the corner, but I just could not see it." Isn't is funny how we do that sometimes? How we give up - assume defeat - before God even has a chance to come through for us? If there is one thing that I am learning...it is that God always seems to show up at the last minute. LOL. Sometimes even a little after the last minute. But what seems last minute or even late to us...is ALWAYS right on time! :) Blessings...

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield I NEEDED these words today! I must remember that if God has led me this far, He will continue being with me, helping me when humans can't--or won.t. I was especially frustrated because it's been more than a month since my surgery and I still can't tolerate solid foods.I really thought I was going to die last night--choking on cottage cheese! Thanks so much for the timely reminder because at times like this, it's hard to see how far God realy has taken me.
