The Vineyard from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. I have always admired Amos, who was a shepherd in a field when the Lord told him to go and prophesy to King Jeroboam in Bethel. The priest Amaziah told him to prophesy somewhere else. They weren't interested in what the Lord had to say, but A...

for a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again, but the wicked are overthrown by calamity. Proverbs 24:16 WEB.Once again, I was the one who promised he would never do it again, then went and did it again. I had slowly drifted away one more time. I have found that it's easy to make promises...

Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? Haven't you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth your hand now, and touch all t...

When The Brook Dries Up

  • So he went and did according to Yahweh's word; for he went and lived by the brook Cherith that is before the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. After a while, the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land. Yahweh's word came to him, saying, "Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain you." 1 Kings 17:5'9 WEB.

Elijah watched the water flow in the brook Cherith get less each day. The Lord had certainly told him to come here and had supernaturally taken care of his needs so far. But now the brook was drying up, and God was silent.

After the water in the brook dried up, the word of the Lord came to Elijah. Then He learned about the next place he was supposed to go. So Elijah didn't know what was coming or where he was going until then. He was like a soldier waiting for the orders to come down the chain of command.

Once, the Lord put me in my own computer business. It wasn't anything I had planned, but He had. He sort of pushed me into it through desperation and some very humbling circumstances. It prospered and was anointed and supported by Him for years. The Lord and I worked together as partners every day, for I was lost without Him. He would open up divine encounters, and I spent a lot of time praying with people.

I never knew what the next day held. At times, the Lord would send us there to minister to the people. The computers would suddenly fix themselves when we walked into the building. Then, we would end up anointing the manager with oil and praying for them and their family. The Holy Spirit would descend on them right there in the office, and everyone would begin to weep.

I was following the Holy Spirit one day at a time, but then the work began to dry up, and He became silent. Finally, after months without work or hearing Him, I was on the verge of breaking down, giving up, throwing in the towel, and bankruptcy. That was the week that He spoke and took us to the next level. He pushed us into full-time ministry using the skills we had learned along the way. It was me that was panicking, but one word from Him changed everything.

Don't panic when the brook starts to dry up. For when it has gone, the Lord will reveal the next step you are to take. The time of silence will end. The time of lack will be over, and His blessings will return. Before God promotes you, He will often close out the old before opening the new.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please let me see the situation through Your eyes and focus on the big picture. Send us the Comforter, for we want more of You in our lives. Please help us make the right decisions and be in the right place at the right time. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
