Don't be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. Galatians 6:6'9 WEB.We were constructing a three-story office building and setting the rafters in place on top of the walls. When I lost my balance and fell over the side of the building. After gravity took over, I had no more control over the situation. They say it's not the fall that hurts but the sudden stop at the end.
As I fell through the air from the top of the building in seemingly slow-motion, my Dad's words came to remembrance. He had warned me that morning to watch my balance and not get too close to the edge. But I was young and felt indestructible at the time.
Thank God I landed in a huge soft sand pile that the brick masons had placed there, and I didn't get a scratch. Yet, a few feet from where I landed were tall 2x4 stakes sticking out of the ground that could have killed me.
Many times in life, when we are near a dangerous situation, the Lord warns us to stay balanced and avoid the fringes. Still, we go our own way. Because, after all, we believe that we know what is best for us. Sometimes we forego all of His warnings, go over the edge, and finally crash. Then we accuse God of hitting us with the sidewalk. Yet, it was our idea and exactly what we wanted to do. He isn't to blame when we break natural laws and reap the consequences. We reap just what we sow.
Being a Christian doesn't make you exempt from reaping your harvest. The seeds you continue sowing in your life will eventually take root and grow. That's why Jesus said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" (Luke 6:31). Yet too often, we have dealt with Christians who would take advantage of us using the "You have to forgive them" attitude to cover the plain fact they ripped us off. This shouldn't be.
Stay away from the edges. The Old Testament plagues always seemed to start on the fringes of the camp and never in the Holy of Holies where God's presence resided. Try and stay balanced, centered, and grounded. Keep in mind that tomorrow we will reap what we have sown today. If the sidewalk hits you in the face, don't blame God for it. Just get back up and dust yourself off. The next time we will be more careful and listen to that still, small voice inside that warns us.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that You protect me from getting out of balance and help me press deeper into Your presence. Please draw my heart to seek Your face and consume the things holding me back. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!Note: Ladies, today is Thankful Thursday at the "Ladies in Distress" group (our RHM women's group)!
