t happened in these days, that he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God. When it was day, he called his disciples, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles Luke 6:12 WEB
After a busy morning of phone calls, texts, and a lot of emails, the inside of my head felt like I was standing in the middle of a busy intersection. It was noisy in there. I really needed to hear from the Lord and to write something, but I could only hear noise. I finally withdrew to my prayer room leaving my phone behind and after some quiet time and prayer with the Lord, I could hear once again. Yes, I am an introvert but I believe that everyone could use some quiet time with God and the Bible. It sets the tone of the rest of my day.
Jesus often withdrew to be alone with God. Though people followed Him everywhere and pressed in to hear Him, though many people depended on Him and doing Gods work was important, Jesus still made spending time with the Father alone a priority in His life. Jesus was the Son of God and still He had to do this in order to stay in tune with the Father.
On the morning that He chose His twelve apostles, Jesus had spent all night in prayer (Luke 6:12). There are many references where Jesus withdrew from the crowds, at times taking His apostles with Him and teaching them alone. Sometimes they would get into a boat and leave for a deserted place (Matt. 14:13) where the crowd could not follow them.
We should not allow the hustle and bustle of todays life make us spiritually deaf. God is not demanding or rude and He will not normally force His way into your life. He often speaks to us but it may be a small nagging feeling or something subtle, and if your head is in chaos you will often miss Him. In quietness and trust we will find strength (Isa. 30:15).
Find somewhere quiet and peaceful where you can be alone with the Lord, if even for a few minutes. Get still, maybe read your Bible. Pray and listen. That small whisper can change your life, and may save it. Dont let the commotion of life rob you of the greatest part of it.
Prayer: Speak Lord, for I am listening. Teach me and I will learn. Lead me and I will follow. I want to live everything that you have for me Lord. Break these chains off of me today and set me free to serve you in the name of Jesus Christ.
