Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree," that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:13'14 WEB.In the Roman Empire, slaves were sold on an auction block with a spear held over their heads. The slave underneath the spear was currently for sale. In Romans 7:14, Paul wrote that he was a slave sold under sin and that sin was the spear being held over him. It was sin that caused him to be a slave.
Slaves have no say about what they will do with their lives. It's up to the slave master to decide. One may be a cook, and another a prostitute. One may appear more respectable than another, but really they are just serving their master's wishes. Anyone unredeemed is in this state of existence. They are used by satan in whatever way he wishes to use them. For your master is who you obey.
Jesus came to Earth and bought us back. Redeemed literally means: "To Buy Back." With His own blood, Jesus bought us slaves back from the devil. Now we are free people. The devil can no longer make you be a prostitute or a drug dealer, for his power over you is broken. When Jesus Christ is your Lord, you no longer have to be a slave to sin.
In fact, it goes much further than that. Not only were we slaves He bought back, but we were also set free from condemnation (John 3:18). Free from judgment (John 5:24), free from the power of death (John 8:51), and our alienation from God ended. For God adopted us into His own family (John 1:12). If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36). Truly, no one could have said it better.
That said, what you feed in your mind will grow, and what you starve will die. Each time you resist temptation, you will grow stronger against it, and it will become easier to resist. The opposite is true as well. Each time you yield to temptation, you become weaker, and it becomes easier to do it again.
With the precious blood of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, God bought us back from slavery. No longer are we in bondage unless we choose to be by our own actions. He can open the cell door, yet we sometimes remain in it because that's what we are used to. Through the Blood of Jesus Christ, I am redeemed out of the hand of the devil.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for saving me and setting me apart. I long for more of You in my life. Thank You for redeeming me from the curse of the law. Set me free from the things that hold me back, and guide my every step. Take away the desires that are not of You. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!Note: For those following the Creation Photography weekly challenges, group leader, Dianna Wyles: Romans 1:20 "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities'his eternal power and divine nature'have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." ~ Our next fun-inspired theme choices will be 'Nature Divine' or 'Unmistakably God's'.
