For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won't prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won't delay. The king talked with them; and among them all was found no one like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore stood they before the king. In every matter of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchante...

If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances, "Don't handle, nor taste, nor touch" (all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men? These things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imp...

The Master of the Storm

  • Now on one of those days, he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples, and he said to them, "Let's go over to the other side of the lake." So they launched out. But as they sailed, he fell asleep. A wind storm came down on the lake, and they were taking on dangerous amounts of water. They came to him and awoke him, saying, "Master, Master, we are dying!" He awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water; then they ceased, and it was calm. He said to them, "Where is your faith?" Luke 8:22-25 WEB.

Who is going to tell Him? The disciples had put off waking Jesus as long as possible, but now the water was getting pretty deep inside their boat. Someone was going to have to wake Jesus up. For even though there was a storm raging around them, Jesus was sleeping peacefully. Now it's not easy for men to ask for help, but as the water grew deeper inside the boat, they managed to work that out.

Earlier in the day, the ministry group had set sail in their fishing boat, planning to cross the Sea of Galilee. While they were sailing, Jesus fell asleep. So the disciples were navigating the craft all by themselves. Now several of them were seasoned fishermen and had grown up around fishing boats. Peter and the others probably felt pretty good about this and thought they had it all under control. There should be nothing but smooth sailing ahead.

They probably thought, "No problem, we have crossed this lake a thousand times. Take a rest. You are in good hands. We will get You to the other side!" Then suddenly, a storm came up, and their boat began filling with water. The group was in great danger. Fear swept over them, and they started to panic. Yet, Jesus slept on. Eventually, one of the frightened disciples woke Jesus with, "Master, Master, we are dying!" He rebuked the storm and asked them a single question: "Where is your faith?"

Will Jesus let you struggle against a storm in your own strength? Apparently so. For they only needed to ask for His help to change their situation. James said, "You do not have, because you do not ask" (James 4:2). The disciples knew all there was to know about boats, but when the storm came, that wasn't enough. They needed Jesus.

If a storm is raging in your life and your faith isn't strong enough to stop it, call on Jesus, the Master of the Storm. Don't assume that He will step in and calm everything without you asking Him for help. Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in" (Revelation 3:20). He doesn't beat down your door, but if you ask Him, then He just may help you today. You can spend time worrying about it, or you can ask the Lord to help you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know that You are the Master of the storm. Please let Your winds blow me to where I need to be. Bring Your peace to my life, and let me walk in the goodness of God Almighty. Help me today. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!

Note: For those following the Creation Photography weekly challenges, group leader, Dianna Wyles: Genesis 9:13 "I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth." ~ 'All the Colors of March' will be our next fun-filled theme choice and is open wide for your creative twist so have some fun.
