This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn't know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you. John 15:12-15 WEB.Once while having dinner at a friend's house, one of the guests at the table was an in-law to an in-law. Though it was our first meeting, she was extraordinarily nosey and began prying into everyone's personal life at the table. Then she offered them "life tips." Eventually, she turned her attention to Sylvia and me.
After she thoroughly questioned us about our relationship, family members, and neighbors, I began to feel like we were being interrogated. It became evident that she was trying to farm some fresh gossip for later.
Those who tell you about others will tell others about you after you leave. So I ended the conversation as politely as I could. This stranger was not my friend. They had no stake in my life, and I had no reason to answer their questions.
So does the Lord with His truths. He won't cast His pearls before pigs (Matthew 7:6). He doesn't share His precious, life-giving truths with those who aren't serious about knowing Him. When they read the Bible, they will find what they expect.
This is why so many people don't get the Bible. The natural mind cannot understand spiritual things (1 Corinthians 2:14). Those are revealed to us by the Holy Spirit. Also, the servant does not know what the Master is doing, but the friend does. Jesus said that we are His friends if we follow His commandments.
It all begins with a relationship with Jesus. As you focus on drawing close to God and talking to Him every day, your understanding will begin to grow. You can read the same verse seventy times and not understand it, and then suddenly, it will click and make perfect sense. That is when He chooses to reveal it to you.
So grow in your prayer life and relationship, and you will also grow in your understanding of His word. What He shares with you depends directly on how well you know Him.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for sharing Your wisdom and knowledge with me. My help comes from the Lord, and my eyes are on You. Please grow my understanding of Your word. Guide my steps and help me make the right decisions. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!Note: 'Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.'
