For it is precept on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little. Isaiah 28:10 WEB.We had scattered pieces all over the table while we worked on assembling a jigsaw puzzle. It was a total mess. This one was mysteriously difficult, for someone had mistakenly...

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are ...

Thunderstorms

  • Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. Psalm 131:2 WEB.

Thunderstorms in the deep south can be terrible, especially for children. Blackened skies, winds that blow down trees, walls of rain you cannot see through, accompanied by bolts of lightning that hit the ground and sound as if an artillery shell exploded. Once a bolt of lightning struck our yard and set off an electromagnetic pulse that caused all the electronic devices in the area to lose their settings.

When I was little, and a severe thunderstorm would come up, my Dad would gather all the kids around him and sit us on his lap with him on the couch. If the storm got really bad, he would always take us out to his truck. My stepmom cursed like a sailor, and he was afraid to be in the same house with her when things got rough, lest she be taken and us with her. Looking back, I guess everyone distanced themselves from her when the weather got rough.

Even in the worst storms, with the wind howling, the lightning striking, and the thunder booming, we felt perfectly safe there with Dad. His presence seemed to calm everything inside of us. We always made it through the storm.

Sometimes the Lord does not calm the storm we are facing, but He will calm His child. When this happens, relax and rest, knowing He is with you. It's going to be OK. The storm will soon pass, for it is not forever. Try to keep a positive attitude while waiting on it to blow over.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 WEB.

A baby wants everything right now, or it cries and screams. A child that is weaned learns to wait until the meal is ready. When David wrote Psalm 131, he said his soul was like a weaned child. For he had learned to wait for the Lord without whining.

You are not alone there, and what you are facing today is not a surprise to God. You will come through this, but you will get to walk on streets of gold even if you don't. So the worst thing that can happen is not really all that bad. We came into this world naked and will go out that way. All that we are striving for today will be left behind. Set your priorities in light of that.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for comforting me. I know that You are in control. You created the universe, and You can handle this. I surrender to You. Please speak to me in a way that I understand and fulfill Your will in my life. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!

I just referred in the testimony forum about how I once survived an F4 tornado here in Arkansas! And I was thinking about it and the aftermath, although I haven't written about it yet, and it seems like you read my mind! One of my favorite stories about it: My friend and I were walking around handing out water and stuff afterward (because our ratty old place at the time was still standing and my neighbors were not so lucky.) We talked to one woman who was cleaning up her yard, and all that was left of her house was a staircase and the bathroom! She had been TAKING A SHOWER and she said when she heard that freight train she thought the good Lord was going to take her out the way she came in! ???? (Your verse reminded me of that!) She was laughing about it 24 hours later! I would have still been in shock, and maybe she was. She said "I saw my sweats lying on the ground by the stairs after it was over. I just darted over and put them on and said 'The Lord has provided. I'm going to be ok.'" She had insurance, thank God.
