One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him. 'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?' Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. A second likewise is...

Cattle Drives

  • Moses said to the people, Dont be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will work for you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see them again. Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still. Yahweh said to Moses, Why do you cry to me? Speak to the children of Israel, that they go forward. Exodus 14:13 WEB

Moses and the Israelite people stood on the bank of the river with the Egyptian army closing in on them. He had just finished a great faith-filled speech about fear and said that the enemy that you see today, you will never see again. Then in the following verse the Lord asked him, Why do cry to Me? Tell the people to go forward.

Sometimes we can become paralyzed waiting to know the will of God. Yes we need to pray and listen, but do we really need seven confirmations to get started? A car can only be steered while moving. A boat cannot be navigated while sitting at anchor. Often the Lord will speak to us after we start the journey, one step at a time, and if you miss Him, He will always find you because He goes after the lost.

Often in our life, we find that the word comes to correct our course just like on a cattle drive. Looking back over my life, I have often been herded through a loading chute with no door on either side, in fact, I prefer it that way because it keeps my decisions simple. Put Him first in your life and your journey begins.

As long as we are walking the correct path, it is pretty quiet. Isaiah 30:21 reads, and your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk you in it; when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left. A word of correction comes when you turn from His path. I say that from experience.

Also you stay with the last word given until a new one comes. Things that I really felt strongly about, that did not pan out, in the end still had value if for no more than education. Dont become paralyzed by fear and anxiety because you may miss Gods will. If you are having a problem determining His will, then how do you know this is not it? That idea that keeps returning could very well be Him guiding you. It is is easier to follow the voice of God than you think. All that it takes is putting Him first in your life, then He will bring the course correction as needed.

Prayer: Father I choose to put You first in my life. I submit to Your will. Please guide me today, put me where I need to be. Help me to become the best version of myself and shine Your light on this earth, in the name of Jesus I pray.

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wyles Thank you and AMEN! That was me yesterday... paralyzed in fear of...the unknown I suppose. A Panic attack is me looking too far ahead, I feel a little better when I remember this and give those fears to God... all the what if's in (my) world fade away when I remember God is driving and I shouldn't try to take over. Be still and listen... then move forward!! Thank you Pastor, as always exactly what I needed to hear today. Stay Blessed :)

Kay Rushin
Kay Rushin I find that the quicker I listen, the more settle in my Spirit I feel. I have to test the Spirit because I know every thought is not of God. I work on the preparation meets opportunity theory, so I am always going to be studying something about his word. Plus I believe in God's navigational system. Re-route me when I make a wrong turn.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield AMEN! I only wish I understood the value of these words seven years ago, when I was still working as an RN. If I had put God first, I wouldn't have been so stressed and probably would not have "burned out" as I did. In the end, I simply did not give a hoot about my career.Sadly, I never renewed my license, so Nursing is now out of the question for me.

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt God opens doors and guides us through them. We might have to get out in the water, and He will lead us where He wants us to go. Trust Him He will never guide us in a wrong direction, when we trust Him we will know it is Him leading us. God is not a God of confusion.

Albert Chau
Albert Chau It is easy to say than done to follow Him. By not putting Christ first in my life, I entangled myself with ego, greed and financial gain but they brought me no joy but pain and suffering, and I ended up losing it all. I learned the hard way that happiness is putting God first in our lives.

Patty Martin
Patty Martin Putting God first in my life has definitely been the best choice I've ever made.  So many of my years were spent searching for the wrong things to make me happy.  I was unsure of who I was and followed many ways of the world.  Since I've dedicated my life to the Lord, everything has fallen into place.  My life began to take purpose and my decisions were much more clear because I chose to include God in all of them.  Not to say that my life is perfect because it surely isn't.   My marriage fell apart and I was broken (emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and financially).  Many friends went their separate ways, and several family members passed away.  But God gave me new friends and colleagues, a wonderful career in teaching little ones, a church that teaches me the Word like I've never known before, and peace of mind.  Now I can add this ministry to my list of blessings.  Knowing that I have my Father in Heaven to lean on, to protect me and to guide me is truly all I need.  May I never take my eyes off the One who loves me!

Patty Martin
Patty Martin Kathy, it's easy to look back and say, "What if?"  I've found myself doing that so many times, regretting choices I made.  Now, when I catch myself looking back, I remind myself of all I've learned, using my past as a learning experience.  Now, I am grateful for the blessings I have in the present, and look to the future and say, "What if?"   It leaves the door wide open for new adventures. Only this time, I'll let God lead the way.  :)

Patty Martin
Patty Martin Yes, the closer we get to God, the more satan tries to lure us away.  I've found this so true, especially over the past 13 years.  If my thoughts don't line up with the Word of God, then I know that satan is at the door.  I like your "preparation meets opportunity" theory.  Good advice, Kay!

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wyles Chin up and keep the faith. Often times when I am trying to move closer to God I feel as if I am being tested by struggle and strife.. keep praying, seeking and asking and it will come to you ...in Gods time. We must be patient and realize that the teacher is always silent during the test. Praying for peace, and strength to keep you  uplifted through the storms of life. Also may God bless you with much comfort, joy and the knowledge that he is carrying you through every hardship you have been going through and will never leave your side. On the hardest days for me I try to count at least 5 positives in my life>> counting my rainbows or blessings that I do have redirects my focus to a more positive space and sets the mood for the day as grattitude... " Count your blessings not your stressings" I truly hope this helps you to feel blessed even through the storms as he never leaves our side and thats a great blessing to know :)
