Silence In The Classroom

  • He succeeded in everything he undertook. But when envoys were sent by the rulers of Babylon to ask him about the miraculous sign that had occurred in the land, God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his heart. 2 Chronicles 32:30 NIV

Hezekiah was a great king in Judah who followed the Lord closely. At his prayer, God sent an angel and wiped out 185,000 Assyrians who were coming to attack Jerusalem (2 Kings 19:35). At his prayer, God healed him and added fifteen years to his life (2 Kings 20:6). Still, there was a time when God left him to test him and to know what was in his heart.

When a teacher is teaching the class, you can ask all the relevant questions that you have about the subject and the teacher will answer them. However when the test comes, there is silence in the classroom.

I know scripture says that He will never leave nor forsake you, but there is a difference in the omnipresence of God which is everywhere and His manifest presence which may or may not be in the room with you.

Those are the times when there is no answer and your tears seem to go unnoticed. When you feel that God has gotten you out on a limb and then abandoned you. Know that you are not really alone. You are simply entering the test phase of what you have been learning. You continue on with the last word given until you have a new one. There is always silence in the classroom during a test.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that You strengthen me and give me the grace to get through these times. Please reveal the pride in my life to me so that I can deal with it before it harms me, in the name of Jesus.

Charlene Girardi
Charlene Girardi I must have a lot to learn since my test has lasted 50 yrs. God has been and continues to be silent for me. It's funny though, how my faith is something I can't turn on and off. There have been several times in my life that I have consciously said I no longer believe out of anger but my heart always told a different story.

Keeba Souto An on time message! Thank you God for reminding us that there are times when you will be silent. In my weakness you are my strength Lord. Yet again that scripture is speaking to me. Here I am Father, weak and broken. Your grace is enough for me! Hallelujah.... Glory to God

Amber Roundtree
Amber Roundtree Amen. I was reading 2 Chronicles 32 and when Hezekiah saw what the Assyrian king was doing he gathered the people "comfortably"(encouragingly). King Hezekiah saw the threat but knew having his God on his side was more powerful than anything that the enemy could do. He didn't panicked but sought God!!! I can learn from that

Kay Rushin
Kay Rushin Thanks Pastor, I was pondering this message. I was trying to discern if he was silent, or if my thoughts/ prayer didn't line up with his will. Was I being obedient when he was speaking? He doesn't work for me, I am suppose to live to serve him. Sometimes we get that part confused.

Laura Patterson-Armstrong
Laura Patterson-Armstrong Pastor, your word this morning brought to mind a friend that had told me several times that she was broken.  She also had said to me that she didn't believe in GOD because she never heard from him. Next time I see her I will try to speak to her about "Silence in the Classroom".  Thank you, Pastor.   I look forward to your ministry every morning.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield As Tom Petty once sang, "The waiting is the hardest part". And in this day, we expect instant results. We want answers YESTERDAY! But God doesn't work that way.Maybe because one year is like one minute to Him--I'm not sure myself, but I do know it took me 40 years to beat the eating disorder! I never stopped believing or questioning God; however, I never thought He cared about my fervent prayers all those years. Now it turns out I was wrong.God DOES hear us! But He responds on HIS terms, not ours!

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt It isn't about me, but always about God. I don't always, and most of the time, do not see the full picture, I do trust God that He does. Praise God that He does know what He is doing. He created me for a purpose, and that is to serve Him. He prepared my works to do ahead of time. He also will finish what He starts. What an amazing God.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady We can rest assured that God's will will be done in our lives. Even when He is silent He is working for our good. He is there, He knows all and has full control of our situations. He tests our faith to refine us. In His silence we draw ourselves closer to Him, seeking Him more, this produces good fruit in our lives. When we earnestly seek Him we find Him, always watching over us with loving care.

Deleted Member Amen, so true, many times He is speaking, but then sometimes He is silent, like Pastor Dion said, the teacher is silent during the test. Jesus will help us be an over comer and He will never leave us without answering our prayers in His perfect will and timing. Jesus loves you so.

Julie Schneider
Julie Schneider I have believed that Hezekiah asked God to change his will for his life and that maybe if he hadnt then the events that occured in the next 15 years may not have happened. It is  sometimes difficult to pray for God's will and i truly believe you should ask God for exactly what you want but ultimately God's will is best!

Karen Pasquinelli
Karen Pasquinelli Thank you Pastor Dion I needed this devotional this morning.  We have to sign our apartment lease for another year by the end of this month.  So far I have not heard from the apartment in California except that it is a 6 year wait list and that was in the beginning of July.  I know God has his reasons and his are always best.  If I have to wait another year or longer so be it, GOD's WILL be done.

Patty Martin
Patty Martin For so many years, I was the silent one.  I did things my way.  Once, my pastor asked, "Well, how's that working for you?"  I let him know it wasn't working at all in my favor.  He told me it was time I had a chat with the Father and waited on His response.  The wait can either be short or long. I have learned that God will place something in my heart and it's up to me to follow or walk away.  Often, the things He places in our hearts go against our will.  This is also God's way of testing.  He can be either diligent in His requests or silent in His responses.  He gives us that much free will.  God waited on me for so long, is it too much to ask that I wait upon Him to give me the answer?  Thank you for today's devotion.  They always make me stop, reflect, and acknowledge the things I still need to do.

I would visit the Chapel twice each day, and whenever someone wanted to pray, I welcomed that prayer. I even carried a small testament that I have had since I was 6years old with me. My son is alive today because of my Lord Jesus Christ!!!! Amen!

Kay Rushin
Kay Rushin Another thing, my daughter and I was talking yesterday, she is looking for a new job. She had an offer yesterday, that would work better for her kids, but she still thinking about one that would make it hard for her to keep up with Church and her kids at night. What is the dilemma? She feel, " girl nobody care how you feel." when you make the right decision that honors God, I think he works out the details. Feelings are over-rated in my opinion.
