Hidden Away

  • Now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to me. Moreover I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come now therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt. Moses said to God, Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? He said, Certainly I will be with you. Exodus 3:9 WEB

When Moses was a young man, he dreamed of delivering his people from their slavery in Egypt. Once when he saw one of his people being beaten, he killed the man doing it and hid him in the sand (Exodus 2:12). When Pharaoh found out, he sought to kill Moses.

So Moses had to flee from the land of Egypt, lived with Jethro, a priest of Midian, married his daughter Zipporah, and tended sheep for forty years in the wilderness. The dream of helping his people, no longer seemed possible. Then one day God appeared to Moses and told him to return to Egypt, but Moses started making excuses.

Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh (Ex. 3:11). I am too old now, for he was eighty. They will not believe me (4:1). I am not a good speaker (4:10). Please send someone else (4:13). Moses had become just another humble shepherd and thought that he was all washed up. But God saw that Moses had just become usable and that Moses was just getting warmed up. It is not who you are, but Who it is that sends you. He often hides His people away until they become ready to use.

In my own life, I graduated Bible college when I was young, ready to take the world for Jesus, but only met frustration and closed doors. For twenty years I worked various jobs, and long after I had given up on ever being in ministry, when it never even crossed my mind anymore, He pushed us into the ministry. I had no desire anymore to minister, felt like I was empty and knew nothing, and content to carry on just as I was. But He closed every other door, we began to starve, and now here I am writing this.

So the vision that He gave you took longer than you thought, and now you feel you are too tired, or too old, and too busy. The dream that once burned hot within you is now cold, but God is now ready, and you are as well. Now instead of going in your own strength, you can do it in His power. Instead of being washed up, you just might be warmed up. When you submit your life to Him, your end will be brighter than your beginning.

Prayer: Father I thank you for bringing me this far. I pray that you stir my spirit once again. Revive me Lord. Make me a fire for You. Help me to walk in Your strength and not my own, in the name of Jesus I pray.

Susan P This is not man's way, but when we no longer feel ready, too tired, too old etc, we can no longer rely on our own strength but must depend on His now. His power is made perfect in that weakness and it becomes more about Him receiving the glory in what He accomplishes through our brokenness. He is worthy to receive all praise.

Veronica Ryan
Veronica Ryan It is so amazing  how your devotional is always just what i need to hear that day. I am leaving Sunday to go to Jenkins, Kentucky to a dental mission clinic. i will be providing dental care, which i know I'm good at that, but I will also be sharing  Christ with people that live in poverty and may not know Christ. Me? Come on God. I sure didn't have this on my list. Everything I wanted for myself has been taken away. I am so excited about this trip and i am even being considered for a permanent position there. I have never lived anywhere else and to leave my children and grandchildren? Everyone except my sisters in Christ think I have really lost my mind  hehe   Please pray for my strength to go and share what Christ has done for me. Thank you for always sharing from your heart!

Ilia Jefferson
Ilia Jefferson I love this message. Sometime back I saw a sermon by TD Jakes based on the same passages, and it was entitled "nothing you have been through will be wasted."  Our lives are not our own, they belong to the Lord.  Everyone have a wonderful Friday, and pray for our country.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield I never had a very high esteem for myself and still don't understand how I became an RN, because, as one co-workers had told me, "Kathy can't do two things at the same time." I'll never forget her words, because they rang true. I could barely do ONE thing correctly! Nursing was a very demanding job and only became more so in 2008, when I left the profession due to my RA, deafness, and mangled right hand.As long as a nurse appears good on paper, all is well and that nurse can go far. But I was always a "hands-on", or bedside, nurse.I scoffed at the reams of paperwork I was given, and because I was the RN, I had more paperwork than the LPNs. I never felt like the nursing profession treated me fairly, and I still feel the sting of those comments!

Patty Martin
Patty Martin Thank you, Pastor Dion, for bringing another timely message!  At times I wonder what it would be like to be able to retire now that I am 59.  I don't have the energy I once had, it takes me longer to get things accomplished, but I do have the mindset to get things done.  God led me back to college at age 33.  It took me almost 13 yrs. to get my Master's Degree and begin teaching, as I had a family, worked full-time, and could only afford to go to college part-time. I also think about what kind of teacher I would have been in my younger days.  I was busy with my own family, and lacked the maturity, patience, and knowledge back then. God knew that.  He knew I needed some practice and life experiences before trusting me to teach little ones.  He knew I needed spiritual maturation.  Thanking God today for His perfect timing!

Patty Martin Father God, please bless Brian and his little boy.  Give him the strength, energy, good health, and confidence to be the father than you know he can be.  You have chosen to give Brian a child in his middle years because You know he can fulfill the task and fulfill it well.  Of all the fathers in the world to raise this child, You chose Brian.  May he be blessed beyond measure as You take the lead, and may he spend many wonderful years together with his son. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Patty Martin
Patty Martin You are not alone, Carol.  I also wonder if I'll ever be able to retire.  Life has not gone as planned, or at least as "I" planned.  But every day, I wake up and I'm able to go to work.  God has blessed me beyond measure and I'm grateful to still has some "get up and go" in me.  He provided me with a  wonderful job in teaching little ones and they give me tons of hugs every day, which God knows I need.  He has made a way for us!  God bless you and have a relaxing weekend!

Phynedra Franklin
Phynedra Franklin Amen we must learn to be patient and wait on God's plan for our lives because His plan is better He is in full control I agree it's hard to wait because the enemy knows that if we wait it will be better that's why we must do as scripture states to pray continually. Thanks Pastor Todd for this message it blessed me.
