The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt. They have done abominable works. There is none who does good. Yahweh looked down from heaven on the children of men, To see if there were any who did understand, Who did seek after God. Psalms 14:1'2 WEB.As the cashier counted out my change, I noticed that it added up to more than I had given her. This was decades ago, and I was a new Christian struggling to make ends meet. I was just beginning to tithe and barely making it.
There were so many thoughts going through my head: "Well, you really need gas money. You have been tithing. Maybe this is a blessing. They will never miss it."
Then there was another small voice: "They will have to take it out of their pay if they come up short. That money is not yours! You better not take it!" Then a scripture came to my remembrance, and that settled it:
"The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of men..."
I pushed the money back to into her hand and explained they were giving me too much. I had only given them five dollars, not fifty, or whatever it was they were counting out. The cashier was shocked and greatly appreciative.
We would have both been accountable for the mistake, not just her. I walked out of that store knowing I had done the right thing and could immediately feel the Lord's presence. He was watching my actions quietly from above.
That day, unlike so many others, when I was given a chance to do wrong, I chose to do right instead. I know scripture tells us that we are saved by faith, not by works, lest we boast. Yet, you better believe that God knows the difference between right and wrong. Too often, we know what is right but do what is wrong.
That day I made my Father proud. I didn't fall for the cheap trick the enemy had set in front of me, as I so often do. Things like that are just a trap to test your character. Will you do what is right, or will you fall for the cheap trick? To trade your integrity for something so insignificant and temporary?
He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? (Luke 16:10-11 WEB).
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that You help me see the traps laid in front of me clearly. Shake me up and get my attention. Please give me the strength and grace to serve You with all of my heart. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!Note: For those following the Creation Photography weekly challenges, here is this week's theme from group leader, Dianna Wyles: John 14:26 "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." ~ Our next fun-tasticly festive theme will be 'Reminiscing Days Gone By'.
