Watch The Edges

Dont be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we dont give up. Galatians 6:6 WEB

As I fell through the air from the top of the building, Dads words came to mind. He had warned me to watch my balance and to not get too close to the edge because we were working several floors up in the air. But I was young and indestructible at the time.

We were constructing an office building and setting the rafters in place, when I lost my balance and fell over the side, then gravity took over and I had no control. Thank God I landed in a huge sand pile and did not get a scratch, but there were tall stakes sticking out of the ground a few feet from where I landed that could have killed me.

Many times in life we are on top of the building, and God warns us to stay balanced and stay away from the fringes. Still, we go our own way because after all, we know what is best for us. When we forego all of the warnings, go over the edge and start our descent down we finally crash. At this point we sometimes accuse God of hitting us with the sidewalk when this is what we wanted. When we break natural laws and reap the consequences, He is not to blame. We reap just what we sow.

Stay away from the edges. The Old Testament plagues always seemed to start on the fringes of the camp and never in the Holy of Holies where Gods presence resided. Try and stay balanced, centered, grounded, and keep in mind that tomorrow we will reap what we have sown today. If the sidewalk has hit you in the face, dont blame God for it. Just get back up and dust yourself off. The next time we will be more careful and listen to that still, small voice inside warning us.

Prayer: Father I pray that you protect me from getting out of balance and help me press deeper into Your presence. Draw my heart to seek Your face and consume that which holds me back, in the name of Jesus.
