Isn't this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joses, Judah, and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?' So they were offended at him. Mark 6:3 WEB.Wood, I grew up around it. My Dad was a carpenter for fifty-five years. I helped him at times, so there was a lot of carrying, sawing, nailing, and pulling splinters from my hands. Since then, I've always enjoyed building things. I find carpentry a valuable skill in our life every day, and I am thankful for those years that I spent working with him.
Dad always started the project by picking the right lumber. He was meticulous. Dad would go through the whole pile to find one piece that was straight. Then he would take that piece and cut it to the perfect size, fit it into place, nail it down, and then smooth the rough edges out with sandpaper. Sometimes He would use clamps and patiently bend the wood to create an arched doorway. It was a lot of work, but the end result would always be beautiful.
The Lord Jesus Christ worked as a carpenter, and He takes the rough and shapes it into something polished. He will search through thousands of people until He finds the right one. He will draw you to Himself (John 6:44) and cut away your past baggage (2 Corinthians 5:17). He will fit you into the body of Christ (Colossians 3:15) and nail you to your own cross (Galatians 5:24). Then He breaks out the sandpaper and goes after those rough edges. The first part of being drawn to Him is pleasant, but some of the rest aren't, especially the cutting, nailing, and sanding.
To accomplish this, He will often place people in our lives that help shape and smooth us. Of course, we hate those irritating people and would like to avoid the friction and the scraping. Yet, we can't see our own rough edges without them. It's natural to want to separate from the friction, but you will retain the roughness that God is trying to smooth out if you do that. And He may bring coarser sandpaper next time. You can and will get through this. When He is done, you're going to be a smooth work of art, handcrafted by the Master Carpenter.

Truly understandable analogy, Pastor Dion, reminding me of my work building guitars. God is soooo patient! Lord, give me the grace to endure the things I face knowing they're Your tools. Thank you. Amen
Boy! Did I have some rough edges.I'm so glad that God has patience. He has worked with me and shown many Miraculous things in my life and the life of others. PRAISE GOD FOR HIS MERCY, GRACE & FORGIVENESS.
Heavenly Father I thank You for giving us Your Son Jesus Christ to reshape us as we go through this journey, help us to be as You wants us to be and do what is needed for our wellbeing. In Jesus Christ name we pray, Amen. Thank You Lord.
Thank you Pastor, a great devotional. We need the Lord to take away all of our roughness from our lives. God bless you both. Amen.
Very interesting! I just read an article touting Kathie Lee Gifford's book ( written in collaboration with a rabbi) .Apparently this rabbi believes Joseph and Jesus were actually stone masons rather than woodworkers. Trees were scarse in Nazareth but rocks were plentiful. Huh.
This really resonates with me. My grandfather was a carpenter also. Sometimes it is hard dealing with people in our lives that cause us to be stressed or hurt but yes God is working on us at all times. Thank you for your wonderful lesson!
Amen Amen Amen
Amen!
Yes amen Lord
This reminds me of a beautiful spanish Praise-Gospel song, "El Alfarero" (The Potter):
Un dia orando le dije a mi Señor
tu el alfarero y yo el barro soy
moldea mi vida a tu parecer haz como tu
quieras asme un nuevo ser.
Coro
Me dijo no me gustas te voy a quebrantar
One day praying I told my Lord
you are the potter and I am the clay
shape my life as to your will, do as you like
with me, make me a new being.
Chorus
He told me I don't like you I'm going to break you
and into a new cup I'm going to transform you
but in the process I'm going to make you cry
because by the fire I'm going to make you pass
I want a smile when everything goes wrong
I want a praise instead of
you complain, I want your trust in the storm
and I want you to also learn to forgive
