Pearls and Pigs

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:13 ESV

Once while having dinner at a friends house, there was a lady there that we met for the first time, an in-law to an in-law. She was extremely nosey and began prying into everyones business and giving them life tips. After in-depth questioning about our relationship and family, I began to feel like I was being interrogated. She was farming gossip to be used against us later. I politely ended the conversation because this stranger was not a friend, they had no stake in my life, and I had no reason to answer their questions.

So does the Lord with His truths. He will not cast His pearls before pigs (Matt 7:6). He does not share precious, life giving truths with unbelievers or mockers. When they read the Bible, they will find exactly what they expect to find. That is why so many people just dont get the Bible. The servant does not know what the Master is doing, but the friend does. Jesus said that we are His friends, if we follow His commandments.

It begins with a relationship with Jesus. As you focus on drawing close to God and talking to Him everyday, your understanding will grow. You can read the same verse seventy times and not understand it, then suddenly one day it will click and it makes perfect sense. Grow in your prayer life and relationship, and you will grow in your understanding.
