When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. Behold, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Matthew 8...

Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you,' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against...

Free Falling

  • Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him. I will set him on high, because he has known my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him. I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation.' Psalm 91:14'16 WEB

In high school gym class, we once had a "trust your teammates" session where you had to fall backward off a platform and let others catch you. Well, the people I grew up with would have moved out of the way, watched you fall, and then laughed at you. So it was a challenge I still remember. At that time and with my upbringing, it was difficult for me to trust anyone, including the Lord.

Many years have passed since then, and the Lord has repeatedly proved to me that we can trust Him. He is trustworthy and has always caught me. Just as David wrote in Psalm 37:25, "I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread." So it has been for me. I am not saying there have not been times of lack. There were many of those, but today I am still here. So apparently He brought me through those times just as He did with David.

Each time I stood in the unemployment line, my life ended up better than before. Yes, there were times of testing. Oh yes, at times, He would put me through some humbling circumstances. I pumped out septic tanks for a living for a season, but I would not be who I am today if I had not first been there. And I would know a lot less about the end game of plumbing.

Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith, it is impossible to please God, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek him. Psalm 37:4 tells us to delight ourselves in the Lord, and He will give us the desires of our hearts.

Seeking God comes with benefits. When your mind is on Him, His blessings will chase you down. I encourage you today to let go of what you are hanging onto and learn to trust God. Let go of your fears and trust that He will take care of you. Fear is the guardian of the treasure chest. If you want to enjoy the blessings of God, you will have to overcome your fear, which stems from a lack of trust. It is a leap of faith. When you let go, He will catch you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please forgive me for not trusting You in the past and help me make a fresh start today. Help me see past the fear that holds me back and to trust that You will take care of me. Thank You so much for your faithfulness. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!

Note: 'Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.'
