Therefore you are without excuse, O man, whoever you are who judge. For in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you who judge practice the same things. Romans 2:1 WEBThe congregation listened quietly as the elder finished his speech on judging others. He said each time that he had looked at another's mistakes and said, "I would never do that," that later he found himself doing what they had done. He was now in his late seventies and was hoping that he had finally completed his list. Admittedly, he was considerably ahead of those of us who were still adding to our list.
I have found too often that what I hate in others is a mirror of what is in me. It is incredible how self-righteous we can feel while looking down our nose at someone else. Every time I have placed myself above someone else's sin, it came to visit my house later.
Jesus said: "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye?" Matthew 7:3.
Save yourself loads of embarrassment and laps around the mountain by biting your tongue before saying anything negative about what someone else happens to be doing. Let God correct the sin in other people's lives and concentrate on fixing your own. If you do have to correct someone, do it in the kindest possible way. Help restore them and get back on their feet. Picture yourself in their shoes, because you are certainly capable of doing the same thing when given the right circumstances.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that You help me see past the mistakes of others. Please fill me with Your love and teach me to restore those who have lost their way. Give me words of wisdom and the right attitude so I can help and not be a hindrance. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!Note: Ladies, today is Thankful Thursday at the "Ladies in Distress" group (our RHM women's group)!
