Yahweh spoke to Manasseh, and to his people; but they didn't listen. Therefore Yahweh brought on them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. The Invoice

  • Then his master called him and said to him, You contemptible and wicked attendant! I forgave and cancelled all that [great] debt of yours because you begged me to. And should you not have had pity and mercy on your fellow attendant, as I had pity and mercy on you? And in wrath his master turned him over to the torturers (the jailers), till he should pay all that he owed. So also My heavenly Father will deal with every one of you if you do not freely forgive your brother from your heart his offenses. Matthew 18:32 AMP

When Peter asked Jesus how many times he should forgive his brother in a day, Jesus said seventy-seven times (or 70x7=490 depending on your translation). The pharisees believed not more than three times. Jesus then then told a parable about two men who were in debt.

There was a man that owed a king 10,000 talents. Now a talent was the highest unit of currency, and ten thousand the highest Greek numeral. This was like a billion dollars. When the man asked for forgiveness, the king had compassion and canceled the debt letting him and his family go.

Another man owed the first one a hundred denarii, about twenty dollars. That is one-six-hundred-thousandth of the first man's debt. Rather than forgive this man his debt, the first wanted to make him pay and put him in prison. When the word got back to the King, he was upset and handed this man over to the torturers to make him pay as well. Both men ended up in prison and only the one who held the debt could release them as the king did not release the man who owed the twenty dollars. He did owe it. The one that he owed it to had to release him.

Jesus said: Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you (Luke 6:37). And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us (Luke 11:4). Our actions cause God to react.

We are required to forgive others in order to be forgiven. This is not really a choice. Jesus made it clear that unless you forgive others, you will not be forgiven yourself. Un-forgiveness is a dangerous game to play. The original text conveys that they were handed over to the Torturers, a tormentor which would make them pay in some way.

Many of us are in that jail and do not even know it. We wonder why our life is a living hell, yet we cling to our bitterness. Let the ones that hurt you go and free yourself from your personal jail. Your life will be so much happier and your mind will be free when you no longer have to track all the wrongs done to you.

Exercise: Create an invoice on paper and write down what they have done to you. Itemize it and place values on it if you want. Fill in their name. When finished, hold it up before the Lord and pray: Lord, they owe me, they hurt me. But because you said to forgive them, I will forgive them this debt. They owe me nothing. Please forgive me. Now burn the invoice.

Gene Zackerman The hardest thing in life for me is forgiving one who is closest to me, when that offense symbolically slaps me in the face daily.  It is a constant struggle, even though I know that Satan is using the situation to bring me down.

Darletha Kitchens Thank you Pastor for the message. I found the hardest person to forgive was me. I would look back at my past and say if only I could change. I  forgave me because if I hadn't gone through the struggles I would not be the Christian I am today.

Kay Rushin Yes Pastor, I had to take several lessons to cement this in my soul, cuz I did not want to forgive those evil people, It was a hard pill to get down. But I had to forgive, cuz the lord knows I needed to be forgiven, for all times I prayed for their demise....Those are not the prayers he will honor. I got it now!

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt Forgiveness is so important in our lives, can't have real joy until you have forgiven others, no matter what they have done to you. I like writing the things down and then after asking forgiveness, burn the list . I also think it is good to go to that person and ask them to forgive you for your unloving attitude.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady I have learned that when I choose to forgive others and pray for them, God turns my anger , hurt, rejected feelings into  feelings of love and peace. We are called to forgive others so God will forgive us. Even when forgiving is so hard if we ask Him to help us forgive, He empowers us to do so.

Kathy Banfield I try--I really do--God knows how many times I've forgiven my family, only to be stabbed in the back TWICE as hard and deep! I am still stressing over Fathers Day and not sure how to deal with a father that constantly tries to convince me (and the world) that I'm crazy!

Kay Rushin
Kay Rushin My apology in advance, I am kinda to the point in my thinking, You can not wait for people to validate who you are, "a mere mortal"   we are talking about doing what the Lord say is required, People thing I am crazy as well. " translation:  to direct"  Let's try a different approach, Maybe you have to lead the way for God save them. They have to see the light in you! I don't know how God does  his Job.....What I do know is, if you are on this site, it is a reason! I am 100% sure God is not about stressing.......when things get hard, I say to myself " okay put your big girl panty on"  You may be the only light they see....You can do it with God standing by you...be encouraged. Embrace the crazy....I am crazy about my Savior!

Karen Pasquinelli
Karen Pasquinelli I hold no grudges and I believe that is forgiving someone (I hope I am right).  When my kids had to borrow money from me I gave it gladly and told them not to worry about paying it back, told them to consider it their inheritance in advance :).  I knew they would never be able to pay it back, we are not rich and that money I gave them was from the sale of a house.  I may not have any left but God has blessed me in a way I can not explain....except that all my needs are met and I want for nothing except to get back to California...Yes I feel I am truly BLESSED PRAISE GOD!

Patricia Walker Only recently have I been able to forgive some people in my past that have done me wrong.  And it was here ~ with Paster Todd and some very nice members, that helped me to forgive ~ after 29 yrs. of holding it heavy on my heart!!  I am free of the pain that this had caused me.  I pray for everyone who has this burden to free yourself and forgive.  Jesus knows how and when I did this and with Refreshing Hope Ministry who made it possible.  Thank you to Sylvia & Dion Todd for this avenue.  I am forever Grateful to you.  God Bless you all.

Kay Rushin
Kay Rushin I was in a silimar place with my Mom, the one that chose him over me " the abuser"...I was her boss, I was unpleasant to say the least to everyone, The problem.... I was a broken mess myself, by this time she has found God, even in my unpleasant ways, she would invite me to Church on a regular basis, No way am I going to a Church you are apart of....deep down I knew I didn't forgive her and blame her for her choices....Fast forward 2 years, Now I am telling her about our God....God will work it out....keep as close to her as possible, you are her light....trust me I know it is hard to do.....Plant the seed in your heart  that she needs your compassion and your light and it will become easier!  Put a mental picture in your mind of Jesus being nailed to the cross for you! Be encourged!

Cheryl Hepler
Cheryl Hepler Great exercise....I truly believe in what Jesus teaches.  Acid eats.  This sticks in my mind the blessing I receive when practicing this teaching.  Unforgiving can eat at me..in me.  Also I was taught that if I think by not forgiving I may be telling myself I might be believing this is my way of not letting them off the hook.  That I can be the one on the hook while they are out tap dancing not having any thought of me.  Like feeling free.

Cheryl Hepler Being on disability & light duty is my mo.  Yet yr financial situation is different.  Blessings to you!  Working close with any family member is difficult.  I felt if things of this sort would jeopardize our relationship I felt I couldn't do it.  I pray for you the Lord Jesus open a door for you to find the income you need and be rid of the tension you are experiencing.  Thank you, Lord for always knowing our needs!  Amen.  PS Have you checked the government/disability for job suggestions?

Cheryl Hepler
Cheryl Hepler My husband & I were talking about what you are experiencing and this is what we learned.  If I am sitting in a chair for instance and someone walks bye & steps on my foot and continues on with no acknowledgement then that was that.  If I am in the chair again and they are approaching me to walk bye I find I will pull my feet in and then there is no incidence.  My normal response is to do that yet I am not holding a grudge or Unforgiveness I just took care of me in a way that Jesus said...Love one another as you love yourself.  So I know what it is to care of me therefore I can care for others.  If they are intentionally stepping on me then I am allowing abuse to myself or lack of self respect.  Thru years of counseling for abuse etc I learned a lot more love for me the one Christ loves to enable me to forgive as well as to love myself in a healthy way.  Boundaries are good.  Pray God's love may come your way more and more showing how much He loves you.  Blessings to you!
