For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. My frame wasn't hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth....

For we were saved in hope, but hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for that which he sees? But if we hope for that which we don't see, we wait for it with patience. Romans 8:24 WEB'Oh I don't want to face tomorrow. I have a bad, bad, feeling about this.' On and on we go into a spiral of sel...

Baby Jesus from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about “Who is Jesus?” I feel that we take it for granted that people actually know that much about Him. In the world we see Jesus as a baby in a manger, then crucified on a cross. The life of Jesus seems to span...

The Dentist Chair

  • And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 ESV

As I writhed in pain in the chair, the dentist wrestled on with the split tooth. It was very painful and I did not want him to touch it, let alone pull on it, but the toothache would not go away until all of it was removed. Like Esau, I began to comfort myself with the thought of killing him when it was over. Finally, the dentist got it out in three parts and the pain gradually subsided. I spared him.

God loves us, but when there are harmful things in our life He will often remove them. It can hurt and we would really like Him to leave it alone. Pride, arrogance, bitterness, greed, lust, hate, He has methods for every stronghold in our life and He loves us too much to leave them there.

Like a Father removing a splinter from his childs hand, or a dentist removing a broken tooth, God knows that it is for your own good and He will not relent. It is scary how far He will go to remove things from your life when you get serious about seeking Him.

Do not panic today if life is painful, for it will not always be. Be sure that your main focus in life is doing Gods will and everything else will begin to line up properly. This does not mean that your life will be pain free, but it will work out for the best in the long run. The things that you are going through will work out for good.

God is always right. When you have a disagreement with Him, you will never win. His arm is too big to twist. Our threats do not intimidate Him. Dont struggle against Him. Work with Him to remove the harmful things and it will be over quickly. Struggling against Him will only prolong it, but He will not stop until He gets it out.

Prayer: Lord set me free from the things that hold me back. Break the shackles that hold me, for I cannot. I submit to Your will for my life and want more of Your presence today, in Jesus name I pray.

Susan P I love your humor in conveying a message, Pastor Dion. :) You are so right, He will not give up, even when the pain is great and we want to run from it. He loves us far too much.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield So true--and I firmly believe that once we accept Jesus as our Savior, God lifts that bar for us and demands more holiness! I find I can't even THINK negative thoughts any longer, and gradually, I'm slowing down on the swearing. It hasn't stopped completely, and if that was ME sitting in the dentist chair, I'd be hollering every cuss word I could think of or invent--LOL. But that's impossible for me: I have a full set of DENTURES!! HA!

Nell Neathery
Nell Neathery Good morning, been browsing at JIOS Radio:  3 videos--my favorite is "Thrive."  I have been remembering 2012 as the year of receiving an important diploma in my life.  This devotional brings back memories from 2012, also, but in the dentist chair.  Both of these were in Shreveport, LA, the area where I will be returning Friday.  When I get home, I will be focusing on studying and sharing my journals that I started keeping in the month of my diploma and returning to the dentist chair (a long story about what happened in 2012!).  I will close by agreeing with the Pastor in his prayer above in my submission to Jesus, being in His presence, being set free, and no turning back in His name I pray, Amen   I am coming home!!!  Thank you all who have had me in your thoughts and prayers in Jesus' love, Nell

Nell Neathery p.s.  thinking about the shackles:  also, in 2012, I went to church in Haughton, LA with my sister:  Central Assembly of God on the Hill (Pastor Andy).  He preached part of his sermon with chains on his hands and feet, and most of the time, during that sermon, I felt he was looking at me.  I was so relieved when the chains were removed.  It was also in that same year, that I received the Holy Spirit to live within me, and I was called by God to serve Him in 2013.  At present, I have been set free from those shackles and plan to walk freely from this day forward!  I truly love the Lord!

Tina G
Tina G So hard to believe that our painful experiences have any good reason. Especially when we are in the thick of of it. But lo and behold, God always, always, ALWAYS has something good on the other side. I have to keep the faith and wait it out. Easier said than done but oh so necessary.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Often Christians forget that following Jesus can bring trials and persecution. Our Father works all things for our good. What is painful physically, emotionally or spiritually refines us and grows us in our faith. It prepares us for greater things and grows and matures us . He is faithful to continue the good work He started in us. The author and finisher of our faith. In order to do this we must be tested and convicted of our failings as our Good Father disciplines us.  It is through this painful discipline that we are assured that Our Heavenly Father corrects those He loves. We are His and He is ours!

Fred Abeysundera
Fred Abeysundera One of the hardest things to do, is to let God do His work and not struggle and blame Him when things go wrong. We need to be reminded again and again that God will take our hand and lead us through the pain. Thank you for that reminder.

Sylvia Froese
Sylvia Froese Thank you Pastor Dion! I heard a similar message today in church and so I feel it is definitely for me to hear this today from you as well. I will remember this metaphor of the dentist chair and broken tooth. I agree that when God takes away, it is best to allow him so I  have less pain. It isn't always something we understand why either. God's plans are better than ours. Thank you pastor!
