The king talked with them; and among them all was found no one like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore stood they before the king. In every matter of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchante...

If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances, "Don't handle, nor taste, nor touch" (all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men? These things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imp...

She wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn. Digging Foundations

  • Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and don't do the things which I say? Everyone who comes to me, and hears my words, and does them, I will show you who he is like. He is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep, and laid a foundation on the rock. When a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it was founded on the rock. Luke 6:46 WEB

The boss paced back and forth watching us behind his mirrored sunglasses. He carried a pistol in his boot. The rest of us stood waist deep in ditches of gumbo clay while we dug with shovels under the hot sun. You would think that we were on a chain gang, but in the South, it was called 'construction.'

Having quit school at sixteen and gotten married, I then landed a "great" job as a common laborer on a construction crew that paid the minimum wage, $3.35 an hour at that time. This is one of the perks that can happen when you leave school early. I wasn't exactly groomed for success.

We were the foundation crew and went ahead of the carpenters. We dug deep ditches by hand following a straight line, then we filled them with wheelbarrows full of concrete. The taller the building, the deeper the foundation had to be.

Jesus was a carpenter and He knew all about foundations. He told a story about two men that built houses. One man dug deep and built his house on the rock, while the other just built his house on top of the sand. The houses looked the same, and they required the same materials to build. The difference lay beneath the surface, where you couldn't see it.

When a flood came and the wind beat on both houses (Matthew 7:25), the house that was built on the sand collapsed, while the house built with the rock foundation was fine. Then Jesus explained what the story meant:

    Everyone who:

    1) Comes to Jesus,

    2) Hears His words,

    3) And does them:

Will have a foundation laid on The Rock.

Storms beat on all of the houses when they come. The difference is this: After the wind dies down, if you have obeyed His Word, you will still be standing. It is our obedience to His word that digs our foundation. 'Why do you call Me, 'Lord, Lord,' and don't do the things which I say?' (Luke 6:46).

Prayer: Heavenly Father please guide me into a firm foundation. Help me structure my life around You, the unmoving, unshakable Almighty God who created the heavens and the earth. Nothing is impossible for You and when You speak, things happen. Lead me today Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray

Note: For those participating in the Creation Photography weekly themes, here is this week's challenge: "Luke 12:27-28: Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you'you of little faith!" ~ 'April showers bring ' mud puddles & May flowers' will be our next fun theme and is open wide for creative interpretation. We encourage you to post anything else that inspires you as well. My photos this week reflect some fun mud puddles along with some beautifully clothed spring flowers! Have a joyous and peace-filled week, and don't forget to stop and smell the flowers!" Here is the link: Creation Photographers
