Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened, he saw no one. They led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. He was without sight for three days, and neither ate nor drank. Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, 'Ananias!' ...

The Living Dead

  • You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience; among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)' Ephesians 2:1 WEB

Another night, another party, we were always playing a gig somewhere in the band that I was in. We played music about six nights a week, and sometimes twice a day on the weekends. At first it was a lot of fun, but eventually it became just another job filled with very late hours and heavy amplifiers.

We often had the same people that would come to hear us and eventually I knew every couple on the dance floor, and what song they were going to dance to. Though I was always on stage, and looked the life of the party, I felt pretty empty. There was something was missing in my life.

One night while playing on stage, the Holy Spirit came into the bar and changed my life. In a flash, in the middle of playing a song and without missing a chord, my priorities were transformed. He gave me a third person view of my current life, and then what He had to offer.

I was living dead. I finished the set, put up my bass, went home and into my bedroom, laid on the floor and poured my heart out to God. That was a Saturday night, and He was calling. The next morning, I got up and went to a near by church. I have never been the same. I found what was missing, or more accurately, He found me.

You can live while dead and empty inside, but you do not have to. Jesus resurrected the dead and gave them life. He can resurrect the spirit inside of you and relight that fire that has gone out. It is never too late to get a fresh start and be revived. The joy and the fire can be restored. The emptiness can be filled. You do not have to be the living dead.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank You for taking care of me and bringing me this far. Please forgive me of my sins, give me a clear vision, and help me become the person that You created me to be, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Greek baffles me and makes me so uncomfortable often. But notice the disciples* and God causing to rain* instruction upon those seeking The Amen and The Truth. And how Paul encourages us to remain level minded and become steadfast and grounded walking forward abiding along the way. Our impulses to snap and flash and get scorny being overcome in Him day by day. Trying to walk on water without drowning or splashing. Eyes on Him & 1 John 4. ♡

Oh Heavenly Father we thank You for all You have done for us here, for giving us Your blessings and loving care in every situation we encounter. Thank You for Your Son's sacrifice to make us clean and no more as a walking dead, in His Holy name we pray, Amen. Thank You, thank You oh Lord.

Dear Pastor and Sylvia, this message is much appreciated. God bless you both.

Comments regarding the sermon on 23 Feb.

I have been sick since Thursday and couldn't attend the church I have been regularly attending for the past 6 or so months, so God said get up and attend Refreshing Hope!

Let me lay a history for you...  in late 2016, as I was preparing to retire (28 Feb 2017) I was driving home from work (about 1 1/2 hours each way) and I was thinking about what I was going to do when I retired (i'm not a sit around guy) and the following happened, IN MY TRUCK...  (see ShowerThem.org)

Me (thinking) – what am I gonna do with my time in retirement?

God – we are going to start a program to take showers and laundry facilities to those in need.

Me – What?

God – We’ll start small, one vehicle and showers only, then we’ll take it from there…maybe add clothing, meal vouchers, and professional help as they become available.

Me – OK, God... I don’t know the first thing about running a non-profit, nor do I have a clue about the state and federal rules/laws, local restrictions, how to find donors, or anything that has to do with laundry activity. You will have to make it all happen…You are the boss, and I’m just the wheel man!

Now, fast forward to this past year...I have been searching diligently for a combination restroom/shower trailer to take to homeless communities, etc.  This requires some $35,000-$65,000 to purchase - plus operating cash, plus a place to house, etc.

I have had many discussions with manufacturing companies, each offering a discount as we have a 501 (c)(3) tax exemption for charity purposes.  But, even though we have held fundraisers, we haven't gotten near the $$ we need to purchase a trailer.  I was led to a utility trailer for carrying water tanks for fresh water to our operating sites at a VA center in MA.  While there, the guy in charge was asking what I was going to do with it and I explained our mission he said they have a decontamination trailer out back that has never been used.  It has showers onboard (6) and is essentially brand new (they got it in the late 1980s).  They are getting ready to list it as "excess" and I can get it by requesting it through our state POC.

There is no restroom capability.

Now, back to the original direction.  This hit me this past week after I saw the trailer and then went back to our website to recall what the Lord said to me...  He didn't tell me to buy a combination trailer, etc, etc...he said "We’ll start small, one vehicle and showers only..."

Here, for the past year, I've been working at my own direction, and not His.  How does this relate to your sermon this morning??

Well, some time ago, you gave a similar talk regarding your life leading up to God assigning you this mission (Refreshing Hope) and that He put you through learning experiences along the way, but didn't give you the whole picture at once...just that portion you needed for that step.  I remembered this as you were speaking and then it hit me...God gave me an assignment over 2 years ago, but didn't give me the step by step instructions.  However, He did tell me to start with one vehicle and showers only...but I have been trying to find a one size fits all capability.  He reminded me, through your sermon, that I am not to go beyone the direction, but to work within my assignment.  Once we have attained that capability, He can/will give me the next assignment.

Praise God for my sickness that kept me home and listening to your sermon this morning!!

Isn't He wonderful???!!!

it was late summer 2011, i had been dragging myself around in a gray world, feeling so heavy every day seemed to go so slow and breathing felt like lifting heavy weights. everything i saw outside of me felt animated and unreal, i was just watching it all through a fog and it felt convincingly hopeless and not able to be changed. i was more undeserving than I've ever been or had ever thought I'd ever be because of the things I'd done and because of the things I believed about Him I had thought He hated me and there was no way I could live up to His expectations and keep myself behaved for very long... feeling murdered honestly, I had despised Him for about 7 years until that day. But that night from within that gray place I hurt so bad, everyday I thought about a way to escape this place we're in. I called out to Him from the belly of my grave and asked for His help.

that night I felt His presence sweep over me and comfort my heart and soften hurting things in me. then for the next few months i went along. I didn't really see a way to go back to Him, not through the same door I left Him from at least.

over the next couple of months I saw a pastor, who had been a person I knew from high school, posting online and asked him some questions somewhat hostily, (noticing the irony of that word now) and he was gracious and didn't respond or delete me... i remember really wanting a response and hope again, i also remember my heart being ready to challenge and tread all over whatever he might say next, so I accepted his silence and went on (i thought alone)...

but another month passed and it was the day before payday and i was pmsing and wanted pizza and lamenting online about wanting it so much i would bounce a check for one and a believer from across the country had a pizza delivered to me from online. this was such a ridiculous thing lol ♡ i was interrupted though in an unexpected way and i felt my heart soften from the effort and response. like it wasnt a pizza she gave me - idk ...

shortly after that happened though another post appeared in my feed from a co-worker. it was a song. and i overcame my scrunchy face to click on it. and I sat there feeling my thick despondency begin to swirl and I was stunned and amazed. i clicked it again and twenty times more before I went to church for the first time that weekend.

The Name of that song was
Gods Not Dead by Newsboys
and that line that says:
let hope arise and make the darkness hide, still makes me cry from the memory of hope breaking through all my little calcified cracks and splitting through whatever was suffocating me and feeling light and air to breath again.

Like it was the first time.

There's no words there
only mercy and a small demonstration of His underserved goodness with His Power

That whole thing holds onto me when voices come to try to say to me He's unreal. Or the church is bad. Or don't trust Paul. Or it wasnt a cross but a pole. (the last one was so hard to see, and imperative, but guess who showed it to me! Paul - 1 Corinthians - who I might not have believed if I a voice in me didn't say wait a moment, let's look again♡!!)

♡ I will believe in Him unto death,
which I hope might be until forever ♡

When God speaks to us, or when He shows us His mercy, there is nothing we can do but sing out in JOY (or as my Dad used to say, make a joyful noise unto the Lord)!!

His mercy endures forever and He has granted it to us...shouldn't we pass it along just as your online friends did for your pizza and music???

Praise God!!
