Working For The Weekend

  • As it was in the days of Noah, even so will it be also in the days of the Son of Man. They ate, they drank, they married, and they were given in marriage until the day that Noah entered into the ship, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Luke 17:26 WEB

As Noah labored on the big boat in his yard day after day, life went on around him. People were eating, drinking, attending weddings, and carrying on with their lives unaware that the end was soon approaching. Though Noah was a righteous man and preached to them (2 Peter 2:5), they didn't listen.

Then the day came when it was too late. The door of the ark was shut, and the rain started to fall. Certainly there were people wanting to get into the ark after the rain started, and Noah may have wanted to let them, but God sealed the door Himself. When He did, those who were inside, stayed inside, and those who were outside, stayed outside. It was too late to say 'Hey wait on me!'

The day is coming like a thief in the night when the Lord Jesus will return to the earth like a bolt of lightning (1 Thessalonians 5:2-3). It will BAM! and He is here. Thieves in biblical times were not cat burglars. It was a sudden surprise attack with a dagger in the back and loud shrieking. I don't know exactly what that day will hold, but Jesus warned us several times to not let it catch us unaware like the foolish virgins (Matthew 25:1).

It is pretty clear to me that not everyone is going to be saved, no matter how hard we try. Each person on earth has to choose for themselves, and the decision cannot be made for them by others. Many are just too caught up in life to be bothered. Many are just working for the weekend.

God loves you and He wants us to enjoy our lives. You can still have fun, just include Him in whatever you are doing, and do not forget about Him like they did in the past. When I go fishing, He goes with me. If I feel that He is leading me to do something else, then I do that instead. He wants a meaningful relationship with you. You will never be caught off guard if you just take some time to pray and listen. Remember, there is more to this life than working for the weekend.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I look to You today. Please walk with me, talk with me, and help me to know You better. Speak to me in a way that I understand, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: For those who are participating in our Creation Photographers theme of the week: Matthew 6:26 "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" ~ 'For the Love of Birds' or 'Abundant Provisions' will be our next fun theme (You know I will have fun with this one folks). Our themes are always open wide for creative interpretation and you are encouraged to post anything else that inspires you as well. My photos this week (in the group) reflect some of my recent birding adventures. I am so excited to see your posts!!!! Have a wonderful week everyone and God bless! Now I understand why Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven... And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first." As pastor Dion said, "He wants a meaningful relationship with you." Amen to that. Lord, please help us to have a meaningful relationship with You and not just what this world is offering.

Pastor Dion, I know where you're coming from with this one.  I am so worried about out children.  Some are so wordly it is scary.  I believe we must just continue to let them know what God has done in our lives and send them encouragements, etc.  Prayer brings miricales.  May the Lord continue to bless you and Sylvia for all you do to reach all God's children.

As Bella Colliander said in her comment, it's scary to see our children living worldy, they can't see the devil's work to take the people to paths far away from God and His will for us to be safe, to walk in justice and holyness, to talk with truth and with words of life, to have mercy with the needy and to do good to them. Certainly I need more of God, I am aware that I should develop a more near relationship with our heavenly Father. I need to give more time to Him to develop a truly loving relationship with Him, and to become the best that I can be thanks to His presence and His work in me.

The concept of remaining alert and prepared is one of the many reoccurring themes in both the OT and NT. That tells me something!

Amen! Thank You Lord! I just wonder how many standing outside the Ark thought they were fulfilling God's Word.
