Haven't you known? Haven't you heard? The everlasting God, Yahweh, the Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn't faint. He isn't weary. His understanding is unsearchable. • Then Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah on the dry land. Yahweh's word came to Jonah the second time, saying, 'Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.' So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh Jonah 2:10 WEB

Jonah landed on the beach and stood up, covered in fish vomit. The giant fish had puked him onto the beach and He probably wanted to go back to the water and rinse off, but he knew that the huge fish was still out there. That would have been a deterrent for me. As Jonah stood there contemplating that, the word of the Lord came to him a second time to go preach to Nineveh, and this time, Jonah went.

There will be times when you don't have a choice in whether you will do it or not. When Moses pleaded with God repeatedly to send someone else, God repeatedly refused and sent him. When Jonah ran away from what the Lord had told him to do, the Lord brought him back on the fish express.

Saul the Christian persecutor was struck blind on the road to Damascus, and then he became Paul the apostle. We like to believe and say that God will not intrude on our life, after all, we are in charge. Then we read about these three, and many more just like them.

When I was young, the Lord told me that I would be in the ministry, and to prepare myself. So I enrolled in Bible college and earned a degree. When I graduated, every door into the ministry was supernaturally closed. Nearly twenty years passed by, and I ended up working on computers, networks, and websites for most of it.

Somewhere along the way, I gave up on ever being in the ministry, and I moved on with my life. I had many reasons why it never happened, I must have wrecked His plans for me somehow, had one sin too many. Eventually I forgot about the ministry altogether, it never even crossed my mind. Then suddenly our computer business dried up, and like cattle herded through a loading chute, I found myself herded directly into the ministry, and here I am. No one was more surprised than me.

Sometimes, God will not take no for an answer. You can run away, but He will bring you back. You can put your focus on something else, and it will disappear. You will have to align yourself with His will, and go where He wants. It is always better to find what He wants and work with Him, than to try and make Him work for you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I submit to You. Use me, guide me, and put me where I need to be. Please speak to me in a way that I understand and I will gladly follow You. Open my mind to the scriptures like You did the disciples on the road to Emmaus, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Pastor Dion, thank you for your personal testimony on how God has been working in your life, and how you have decided to follow Him to the best of your ability.  I have had this kind of experience also, in which God has seemed to only give me "unanswered prayer" for years, and on occasion have given up on it as well.  Being who I am, I have also dwelled on all sorts of other scenarios and reasons for God to not act in a more "timely" (my time)fashion--my asking or my message was an announcement of a preparation time in advance of the Promise; a time for me acquire the things God wants me to acquire before He acts; the timing of the fulfillment of His promise is not to be as I wish it be; but "in God's time".  I am of the belief that Jesus is our master teacher (I am a retired teacher, and think in those terms.), and was modeled on the Cross the things that we would wise to pay attention to when it comes to those who harm and destroy what we love!  His is not retribution of any sort (that He leaves in God the Father's hands), but he is a forgiving Spirit, and cry out to God, His Father, asking His ultimate question, and then placing His Beloved Mother into the care of a trusted comrade, then yielding all of Himself to His Father.  Such Mercy, Love, Charity, and Surrendering to the Worst thing Life had to offer Him is so very foreign to us, when we have practiced "thinking like Jesus" or "putting on those Virtues of the highest value to us.  Sinking to their deepest lows (the companion Vices)without the struggle of rising above the bad, doesn't help us to weaken the bonds sin has over us.  We all know this, every time we try to "break" a nasty bad habit.  For me, trying to imagine other "reasons" for things, has helped me to realize that God is not "black and white"; He is just like his Covenant sign--the rainbow!  An array of colorful strands of light which do not have the same length to their wavelengths, yet we see it first as pure light, but with rain, prisms, or when bent can be split into in rays of a simple, yet complex sight in Nature's reminder from God.  :)
