Haven't you known? Haven't you heard? The everlasting God, Yahweh, the Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn't faint. He isn't weary. His understanding is unsearchable. Isaiah 40:28 WEBIt was a hot Saturday evening in the summer and I was exhausted, and in a pretty bad mood by the time we got home...

Aren't five sparrows sold for two assaria coins? Not one of them is forgotten by God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore don't be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:6 WEBWe live near the coast of South Carolina in the countryside and have a large oak t...

Sudden Stops

  • Don't be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. Galatians 6:6 WEB

As I fell through the air from the top of the building in seemingly slow-motion, my Dad's words came back to mind. We were working several floors up in the air, and he had warned me to watch my balance and not get too close to the edge, but I was young and felt indestructible at the time.

We were constructing a three story office building and setting the rafters in place on top of the walls, when I lost my balance and fell over the side. Gravity took over, and then I had no more control over the situation. Its not the fall that hurts, but the sudden stop at the end.

Thank God I landed in a huge sand pile that the brick masons had placed there and I did not get a scratch. Right next to where I landed were tall 2x4 stakes sticking out of the ground that could have killed me.

Many times in life we are near a dangerous situation and God warns us to stay balanced and avoid the fringes. Still, we go our own way because after all, we believe that we know what is really best for us. When we forego all of the warnings, go over the edge and start our descent down, we finally crash. At this point, we sometimes accuse God of hitting us with the sidewalk, when it was our idea and exactly what we wanted to do. When we break natural laws and reap the consequences, He is not to blame. We reap just what we sow.

Being a Christian does not make you exempt from reaping your harvest. The seeds that you continue to sow in your life will eventually take root and grow. That is why Jesus said to 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you' (Luke 6:31). Yet too many times we have dealt with Christians that would take advantage of us using the 'You have to forgive them' attitude, in order to cover the plain fact they ripped us off.

Stay away from the edges. The Old Testament plagues always seemed to start on the fringes of the camp and never in the Holy of Holies where God's presence resided. Try and stay balanced, centered, grounded, and keep in mind that tomorrow we will reap what we have sown today. If the sidewalk has hit you in the face, don't blame God for it. Just get back up and dust yourself off. The next time we will be more careful and listen to that still, small voice inside that warns us.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that you protect me from getting out of balance and help me press deeper into Your presence. Please draw my heart to seek Your face and consume that which holds me back, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: For those who are participating in our Creation Photographers theme of the week: Proverbs 4:23 "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." ~ 'It's a Heart Thing' will be our next fun theme of course and is open wide for creative interpretation! Hearts are all around I see them every day, in nature and in our surrounding. I challenge you to slow down and seek out Heart Blessings this week - God's messages of Love!!! This can be from literal hearts you seek & find like I do or perhaps people or things that bless your heart - the possibilities are limitless! Dear Father sometimes we give deaf ear in situations where we need to hear Your inner voice, help us to be attentive to Your voice and to not forget Your designs. That Your Holy Spirit lead us today to follow the instructions You have given us, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
