The Sand Castle

  • Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on a rock. The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it didn't fall, for it was founded on the rock. Matthew 7:24 WEB

When I was young and staying with my mom for the summer, she once took us to the beach. My brother and I built a huge sand castle that day. We put a lot of work into it, it even had windows, but later when the tide came in, it washed it all away. When the tide went back out, there was not even a trace of our masterpiece left. It had failed to endure the test of time, and the crashing waves hadn't helped either.

Keep Jesus in the center of your life. It is easy for other things to become your focus and you can start to build everything around that instead. Be careful, for when the tide rolls in, your life can come tumbling down with it.

Jobs end, people change, beauty fades, children grow up, everything that we see with our natural eye is temporary and will change over time. All these things have a place in your life, but they cannot be the center of it, for when they change, your life will to. You will never be stable unless you develop that personal relationship with Jesus, the unchanging Rock of Ages (Isaiah 26:4). Build your life on the Rock.

Put your trust in the eternal and do not let your life center around temporary things that change. Build it around Jesus and then you can still enjoy the rest. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33). He is the unchanging, everlasting rock, and the ones that trust in Him will not be wiped out when the tide comes in.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I want You to be the center of my life. Please help me put things in the proper perspective and get my priorities in order. Give me the grace to live a life that is pleasing in Your sight, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (2 Chron 7:14). If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network
