When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. Behold, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Matthew 8...

Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you,' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against...

Let There Be Light

  • For you will light my lamp, Yahweh. My God will light up my darkness. For by you, I advance through a troop. By my God, I leap over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect. Yahweh's word is tried. He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him. Psalm 18:28 WEB

Total darkness is the complete absence of light. In scripture it is associated with gloom, despair, and terror as well as the normal meaning of no light. When you remove all light, what you are left with is darkness. Humans cannot distinguish color when it grows dark and as the light fades, colors become gray, and eventually black.

One of the curses on Egypt was a darkness that could be felt. It was an oppressing, heavy, thick darkness, and no one even moved out of their spot for three days, but there was light in the houses of God's people (Exodus 10:22). This darkness was the complete absence of light.

'Let there be light' was one of the first things that God did in Genesis (1:3). Jesus told the people: 'I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life' (John 8:12).

Life is fragile. As people, we like to think that we have it all under control, but I have been on top of the world one day, and under it the next, feeling crushed. One phone call, and a darkness like this can settle over us, one that can be felt. The light of God's presence will drive away the darkness, just as turning on a light in a dark room. When the Lord lights your lamp, the darkness will flee.

If your life is in a dark place today, look to the Lord Jesus. When you cannot seem to move, it is He who will bring the light into the darkness. He will meet you right where you are. His light can drive away the darkness and restore the color to your world. Jesus is the answer.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I look to You today. Please bring Your light into my life and drive away the darkness. Fill me with Your presence, restore my hope, and give me a fresh vision for my life, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people" (Ephesians 6:18). If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network

Thank you Jesus for being the Light of the World!  Without that bright light, we would live in total darkness.
